We do this at all stages of our programming, from portfolio discussions, to more granular engagement on design, delivery and lesson learning following the closure of our projects.</p><p> </p><p>While no money goes directly to the Government of Nigeria, aid is delivered in partnership with government bodies to ensure it is effective, impactful and in line with national priorities.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>DFID’s support is helping developing countries to collect more taxes from where they are due. The aim is to build self-sustaining economies that can generate their own financing through increased tax revenue and private investment. In addition to providing capacity building support in-country through bilateral support programmes, this includes providing £10.3 million to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to assist developing countries to implement international tax standards to tackle international tax evasion and avoidance. For example, through this funding we are supporting the ‘Tax Inspectors Without Borders’ initiative, which assists developing countries with issues such as complex international audits. This programme has generated an additional $100 in revenue for every $1 spent on operating costs.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In support of the Sustainable Development Goals 1 and 8, DFID is committed to ensuring that individuals in developing countries have access to affordable and appropriate financial services, including in insurance.</p><p>DFID supports the creation of an enabling environment for insurance services in developing countries through our funding to Financial Sector Deepening Africa who are working with local insurance regulators to adopt more effective policy frameworks and digitally-enabled product innovations.</p><p>We are also funding the World Bank’s Harnessing Innovation in Financial Inclusion programme. This seven-year programme is aimed at enabling financial inclusion on a sustainable basis, using technology to help poor people in developing countries access and use financial services.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK government recently announced that it will step up its efforts to end the preventable deaths of mothers, new-borns, and children. The UK’s work on ending new HIV infections and preventing AIDS-related deaths is a part of that commitment. We recently announced a 16% increase in our contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria – £1.4 billion for this year’s replenishment. In 2018 alone, UK aid helped the Global Fund to provide 18.9 million people with antiretroviral therapy and protect nearly 700,000 babies from being infected by their mothers.</p><p>DFID’s assessment of progress on reducing global incidence of HIV/AIDS are informed by annual reviews of our programmes, which are publicly available on the DFID Development Tracker, along with reports and data produced by UNAIDS and other partners including the World Health Organisation and the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In 2018, DFID spent £174.6 million multilateral Official Development Assistance (ODA) to tackle HIV/AIDS. Most DFID investments to the HIV response are now directed through multilateral organisations such as Unitaid, UNAIDS and the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. In addition, in 2018, DFID spent £10 million bilateral ODA on programmes tackling sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS.</p><p>The UK has made a £1.4 billion pledge to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria for the 6th replenishment covering 2020 to 2022. This supports the commitment to end the AIDS epidemic as a public health threat by 2030.</p><p>This data does not capture spend on related programming on comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights, including research and health systems strengthening.</p><p>DFID spend data is available on the Statistics on International Development website. Comparable figures beyond December 2018 are not yet available. Estimates for 2019 spending will be available in autumn 2020.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to tackling the illegal wildlife trade (IWT) and helping to conserve nature and wildlife. Strengthening law enforcement is a key strand of our work. It is one of the topics on which organisations, such as the International Fund for Animal Welfare, can bid for funding from the Government’s Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund. Currently through the IWT Fund and with some additional funding from Defra, the UK is funding Interpol and the International Consortium on Combatting Wildlife Crime, which is an international initiative to help countries strengthen their criminal justice systems and enhance enforcement. star this property answer text <p>The Department for International Development does not have a traditional bilateral aid programme with poverty reduction as the main objective in Indonesia. Instead, the UK Climate Change Unit (UKCCU)’s work in Indonesia is focused on making a difference to a critical global public good – the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.</p><p> </p><p>So-called ‘virginity testing’ is cruel and degrading to women forced to undergo it. There is no justification for it. UK government officials have raised this issue with their counterparts in the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.</p> more like this
