Through a multi-donor trust fund called ZIMFUND, DFID has, since 2010, supported the rehabilitation of water supply infrastructure to improve waste water treatment capacity and water supply to some areas. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/06/2019 answer text <p>The UK is providing a range of support to displaced people in Yemen in response to the displacement of 3.3 million people since the conflict began in 2015. Last financial year (2018/19), for example, we <del class="ministerial">provided</del> <ins class="ministerial">contributed to the provision of </ins>food assistance to over 490,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) and since June 2017 we have helped over 40,000 IDPs receive psychosocial support and provided over 35,000 with life-saving health care.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has also supported the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide primary healthcare and mental health services, legal assistance, child protection and support to survivors of gender-based violence. We are closely engaging with the UN’s Humanitarian Co-ordinator and organisations delivering humanitarian assistance to establish the severity of the operating conditions they are facing.</p><p> </p><p>The UK continues to call on all parties to the conflict to comply with UN Security Resolution 2451 to facilitate safe, rapid, and unhindered access for humanitarian actors. We are clear that there can be no military solution to this conflict. A political settlement is the only way to provide long term stability to Yemen and address the worsening humanitarian crisis. The UK condemns Houthi interference in the operations of local banks in north Yemen, including the arrest of banking staff in February 2019.</p><p> </p><p>Effective economic regulations, alongside appropriate economic policies, will have critical humanitarian benefits in Yemen. Whilst the latest total food import levels into Yemen have exceeded pre-conflict requirements, high prices continue to drive the risk of famine.</p><p> </p><p>The need for effective economic regulation was demonstrated last year, when the Yemeni Riyal lost more than half of its value between January and October 2018. This caused prices to rise steeply and risked making food unaffordable for millions of vulnerable Yemenis. In response, the UK rapidly disbursed £18 million last month to the UN’s pooled fund and UNICEF to help tackle the issue. We have seen a decline in suspected cholera cases in the last five weeks and hope this continues.</p><p>To help prepare for outbreaks of cholera, the UK is leading a joint Met Office, NASA and US scientist team to accurately predict where the disease will spread to in Yemen. This will help to provide essential services, including healthcare and education, for millions of Palestinian refugees living in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Gaza and the West Bank.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has also acted to ensure the long-term sustainability of the UN system in general by supporting the Secretary General’s reform agenda, including the Funding Compact which is being discussed at ECOSOC in New York in late May.</p><p> </p><p>The UK is committed to getting the best value for the UK taxpayers’ money in our aid programmes.
