	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/06/2019 answer text <p>The UK is providing a range of support to displaced people in Yemen in response to the displacement of 3.3 million people since the conflict began in 2015. Last financial year (2018/19), for example, we <del class="ministerial">provided</del> <ins class="ministerial">contributed to the provision of </ins>food assistance to over 490,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) and since June 2017 we have helped over 40,000 IDPs receive psychosocial support and provided over 35,000 with life-saving health care.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has also supported the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide primary healthcare and mental health services, legal assistance, child protection and support to survivors of gender-based violence. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has delivered essential equipment such as lab testing kits and personal protective equipment and has used DFID-funded Trauma Stabilisation Tents to quarantine suspected COVID-19 patients at the Rafah border crossing. UN agencies are supporting further measures such as the establishment of a field hospital and the creation of a medical checkpoint at the Erez border crossing.</p><p>A widespread outbreak of the virus could overwhelm Gaza’s already overburdened health system - especially given the lack of reliable access to clean water and energy in the strip. Our funding helps provide education to more than 533,000 children (half of which are girls), health services for around 3.1 million Palestinian refugees, and social safety net assistance for around <del class="ministerial">271,000</del> <ins class="ministerial">255,000 </ins>of the most vulnerable.</p><p>The services that UNRWA provide play a key role in helping contain and address the spread of COVID-19. DFID is working closely with other government departments to facilitate the return of staff deployed to other government departments, following the extension of Article 50. As of 21 May 2019, 100 of these staff have returned.</p><p> </p><p>To release staff for deployment, DFID undertook a detailed prioritisation exercise to assess the internal resource required to maintain essential delivery. For DFID, this meant meeting the legal commitment to spend 0.7% of GNI (Gross National Income) on international development in an effective and value for money way and the ability to respond to humanitarian emergencies. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/05/2019 answer text <p><strong></strong></p><p>The UK is committed to meeting the needs of all internally displaced persons, whether they are displaced as a result of conflict or natural disasters. <em> </em>DFID provides funding to key agencies involved in responding to the needs of internally displaced persons, including the Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).</p><p> </p><p>The UK is a significant humanitarian donor in many countries with displaced populations. For example in South Sudan, in 2017/18 our support reached over 420,000 people with food assistance, over 370,000 women and children with nutrition support, and over 680,000 people with access to safe drinking water and/or improved sanitation facilities, many of whom are internally displaced. In Iraq, DFID support has helped provide food assistance to over 408,000 people, emergency cash transfers to over 274,000 people, and life-saving healthcare services to over 4.1m people, including those internally displaced. Additionally, in Syria where there are over 6 million of internally displaced persons, DFID has spent over £1 billion in humanitarian response.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has provided £36 million in response to Cyclone Idai which is estimated to have affected 2.6 million people in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. DFID and the Department for Health and Social Care are working closely together on tackling AMR and senior officials have met on this issue.</p><p> </p><p>As part of tackling AMR, DFID continues to support health and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes which emphasise the importance of improving infection control, and WASH in health facilities, which is key for the prevention of infections and antimicrobial resistance. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/06/2019 answer text <p>Approximately 40% of health facilities in Malawi do not have adequate water, sanitation and hygiene facilities.</p><p>DFID’s £110m Malawi Health Service Support Programme funds regular supply of piped water to health facilities in 28 districts and the construction of new health facilities that meet water, sanitation and hygiene standards. An estimated 400,000 Malawians will benefit from these facilities.</p><p>DFID Malawi has funded UNICEF to improve hygiene facilities in 13 Cholera-prone districts. A network of Country Offices enables DFID to ensure we have staff with expert local knowledge and the ability to work directly with local partners.</p><p> </p><p>The rules that govern our programming stress the importance of ensuring that the views and experiences of citizens and beneficiaries inform the design and delivery of our programmes. Through a multi-donor trust fund called ZIMFUND, DFID has, since 2010, supported the rehabilitation of water supply infrastructure to improve waste water treatment capacity and water supply to some areas. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/05/2019 answer text <p>Getting more women into power gives voice to a marginalised section of society, creates female role models and leads to legislative change and policies that tackle gender inequalities and discrimination. Peace settlements are 35% more likely to endure for more than 15 years if women have been involved in negotiations.</p><p> </p><p>Increasing women’s political participation and leadership is a foundational pillar of DFID’s Strategic Vision for Gender Equality, launched in March 2018, and is a top priority in the current cross-Government National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security.</p><p> </p><p>Just 24% of national parliamentarians around the world are women. DFID programmes are supporting women to participate in politics.</p><p> </p><p>In Nigeria, DFID’s ‘Women in Politics’ programme supports women elected to the National Assembly, including establishing the first women’s caucus as a forum for advocacy, policy development and training. In Afghanistan, DFID support has helped women provincial councillors who often face intimidation and violence in their work.</p><p> </p><p>Women’s voice and leadership can make a real difference on issues that matter to them.</p><p> </p><p>DFID has supported Amplify Change to fund women-led organisations that help women to claim their sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR).
