star this property answer text <p>Through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) we are supporting those who have been injured by violent incidents through physical rehabilitation centres, as well as those who have been displaced from their homes with food, health care, psychosocial support and legal assistance.</p><p> </p><p>We routinely pre-position supplies through our partners including World Food Programme and UNICEF, as well as through the UN Rapid Response Mechanism where it is judged conflict might affect populations. In 2018 for example, the UK flew more than 30,000 tents, blankets, kitchen sets and other household items into Yemen which were urgently needed by families displaced from Hodeidah.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We are very concerned by the potential funding cliff edge the UN is facing in June. The UN’s 2019 humanitarian appeal for Yemen is the largest in the world at $4.2 billion. The Geneva Pledging Conference in February of this year saw $2.6 billion pledged, approximately 20% of which has been disbursed to date.</p><p> </p><p>The UK is actively engaging with other large donors to encourage the rapid disbursement of funding to the UN to enable it to cover urgent needs.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has also brought forward funding and we will have disbursed over half of our £200 million pledge for this financial year (2019/2020) by the beginning of June. This included funds for UNICEF to respond rapidly to a spike in cholera. As a result, cholera cases have declined for four weeks in a row and we hope a wider outbreak has been avoided.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>On 24 February, the Prime Minister announced that the UK will provide an additional £200 million in response to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen for the next financial year (2019/2020). This was the third largest amount pledged at the UN 2019 Yemen Pledging conference and brings the total UK commitment to Yemen to £770 million since the conflict began in 2015.</p><p> </p><p>We are encouraging other large donors to disburse promptly and are confident that if this happens the UN and NGOs will be able to deliver a strong humanitarian response. The Geneva Pledging Conference in February of this year saw $2.6 billion pledged, approximately 20% of which has been disbursed to date.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has brought forward funding to cover urgent UN funding gaps and will have disbursed over half of our £200 million funding by the beginning of June. We will release our remaining funds promptly and in line with our partners’ funding requirements.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We are concerned about the deterioration of humanitarian access in Taiz and Ad-Dhale, following the recent escalation of fighting. We are closely engaging with the UN’s Humanitarian Co-ordinator and organisations delivering humanitarian assistance to establish the severity of the operating conditions they are facing.</p><p> </p><p>The UK continues to call on all parties to the conflict to comply with UN Security Resolution 2451 to facilitate safe, rapid, and unhindered access for humanitarian actors. We are clear that there can be no military solution to this conflict. A political settlement is the only way to provide long term stability to Yemen and address the worsening humanitarian crisis. star this property answer text <p>The World Food Programme (WFP) resumed their distribution of food aid in Sana’a city on Wednesday 21 August, following an agreement with the Houthis on the introduction of biometric registration of beneficiaries and an end to Houthi aid interference.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has worked closely with WFP throughout this year to ensure that food aid can continue to reach those who need it most.</p><p> </p><p>Most recently, on Friday 9 August, the International Development Secretary met with David Beasley, WFP’s Executive Director, where they discussed progress towards the resumption of food deliveries to Sana’a city.</p><p> </p><p>The UK actively calls on the Houthis to stand by their commitments to WFP to allow the biometric registration of beneficiaries so that millions of vulnerable Yemenis can continue to be reached with life-saving aid.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Yemen remains the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with nearly 80% of the entire population, over 24 million people, requiring some form of humanitarian assistance. More than 20 million people in Yemen do not have reliable access to food and almost 10 million people face extreme food shortages.</p><p> </p><p>The UK is providing £200 million in response to this humanitarian crisis this financial year, bringing the total UK commitment to Yemen to £770 million since the conflict began in 2015. This support is meeting the immediate food needs of more than 1 million Yemenis each month, treating 70,000 children for malnutrition and providing over 1 million people with improved water supply and basic sanitation.</p><p> </p><p>We are clear that a political settlement is the only way to fully address the humanitarian crisis and we encourage further constructive engagement from all parties to achieve this.</p> more like this
