Mains-fed water filter units, serving chilled tap water, are installed throughout the UK offices for the use of both staff and visitors. The FCO now manage our overseas offices and are responsible for the provision of supplies, such as bottled water. DFID’s usage will be included in their response for the overall overseas estate to this question. In many countries the mains water is not drinkable and bottled water is provided. However, we do not keep any records of purchases or amounts spent; these are held by the FCO.
more like this

star this property answer text
This project provided technical assistance to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence to support modernisation of the accommodation system for Ukrainian military personnel. It supported delivery of the UK’s objective to help Ukraine reform its Defence/armed forces to eliminate corruption and increase civilian oversight and rule of law, strengthening the resilience and stability of the State. The total cost over some 15 months was £414,930. The project successfully delivered its four main outputs: a proposal for a trusted and transparent centralised process for queue management; a policy for new accommodation maintenance, procurement and contracting standards for the Ukraine defence forces; new construction tender requirements and contracting guidelines; and a concept paper for a new defence housing system and detailed reform implementation plan for at least 2 years.
more like this

star this property answer text
We are not aware of any formal reports of FGM being used as part of the electoral process; but with our partners we are closely monitoring all risks around the election.

DFID is committed to working with the Government of Sierra Leone to promote the rights of women and girls and will seek to work with the new Government to specifically tackle FGM in the country. Supporting Sierra Leones’ elections bodies to deliver free, fair and inclusive elections is a top priority for the UK. We are working with the National Elections Commission (NEC) and Civil Society Organizations to deliver civic and voter information better targeted to specific groups like women and persons with a disability. Efforts are underway by the UN in country to establish a women’s situation room to help monitor and tackle instances of violence against women and other vulnerable groups. The NEC is also working to make voting centres more physically accessible and/or able to provide special voting arrangements e.g. tactile ballots for the visually impaired, and table-top voting screens for mothers with small children.

Made from plant material – not plastic – these cups are organic, compostable and can be recycled with the food waste. In 2017 DFID Scotland took delivery of approximately 3,000 card and plastic cups. There are schemes in both DFID offices to encourage use of reusable coffee cups, with 10% off the price of a coffee when staff use their own cup. In DFID Scotland reusable cups are available for purchase, with the aim of bringing down the number of disposable coffee cups used.
more like this
