It is too early to quantify how much progress has been made since September 2015.</p><p>To accelerate progress and help to meet the Sustainable Development Goal targets the UK government supported the development of, and signed a commitment to, the updated Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescent Health.</p><p>We continue to invest in improving health systems in our focal countries to ensure that mothers and newborns can receive better quality care at birth, so improving their chances of survival. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/10/2016 answer text <p>The UK directly supports a number of bilateral education programmes for refugees providing indirect support through multilateral contributions to organisations such as UNHCR. Specifically on the Syria crisis, in 2015/16 UK Aid, as part of the No Lost Generation Initiative (NLGI), has provided nearly 392,000 children in Syria and the wider region with formal education and nearly 95,000 with non-formal education. Additional psychological support has been provided to nearly 199,000 children, and 350,000 text books to children in Lebanon, nearly 100,000 of which are Syrian refugees.</p><p>The UK has been instrumental in creating a new global fund for education in emergencies and protracted crises – called ‘Education Cannot Wait’ – which was launched at the World Humanitarian Summit in May this year. This fund will support displaced children to access quality education, as part of its wider mandate to improve education in emergency and crises affected countries. The UK pledged £30million for two years to the fund, as the largest founding donor, which will contribute towards the fund reaching 4.5 million children in its first two years. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/10/2016 answer text <p>UK funding in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey targets not only Syrian refugees, but also vulnerable members of the communities hosting these refugees.</p><p>To date, the UK has pledged a total of £2.3 billion to the Syria crisis response, to be allocated and spent by Department for International Development (DFID) implementing partners between 2012 and 2020. Of this, £1.7 billion has already been allocated to partners working in the region, including £1.1 billion in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. £285 million of this is a contribution to the EU Turkey Refugee Facility, in addition to the UK’s contribution via the EU budget, to be spent between 2016 and 2019.</p><p>Table 1 (attached) provides a summary of how much DFID Syria Crisis Response funding has been spent (disbursed out of DFID bank accounts) up to the end of financial year 2015/2016, to implementing partners in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey by partner type.</p><p>DFID has also allocated £54.5 million as part of its Mediterranean Crisis Response since October 2015. Over one million refugees and migrants crossed the Mediterranean into Europe in 2015, half a million of whom were Syrians escaping war. This funding has not only reached refugees from Syria, but also beneficiaries from other nationalities. As of 21 September 2016, of the $6 billion grants pledged for 2016 at the Conference, donors had committed $6.3 billion and delivered $4.7 billion.</p><p>The UK continues to work with other London Conference co-hosts to urge donors to deliver on the commitments they made in London and to consider what more can be done to meet the funding gaps of the UN appeals. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 31/10/2016 answer text <p>DFID is supporting the President’s Recovery Plan (PRP) that focuses on delivering its two health priorities to strengthen Sierra Leone’s health system post Ebola. They are:</p><p>(i) Prevent, detect and respond to epidemics to ensure zero cases of Ebola. DFID is providing £38.5million to support epidemic preparedness in the country by strengthening disease surveillance, laboratory services, maintaining a rapid deployable treatment centre and monitoring Ebola survivors. This programme has been operational since December 2015 and will finish in December 2017.</p><p>(ii) Saving the Lives of 600 women and 5,000 children. DFID is providing £150million over five years (2016 – 2021) to support the Government’s saving lives target by June 2017 and then increase the availability and quality of Reproductive Maternal Neonatal Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) services by 2021. This is being done by equipping emergency obstetric centres, providing adolescent reproductive health services, increasing the availability of skilled health workers and by providing bed nets and free medicines to mothers and children. This programme commenced implementation this month.</p><p>Each health priority has a clearly defined work plan with milestones and is coordinated by the Ministry of Health. Progress against the milestones is monitored and reported weekly with the President reviewing progress each fortnight. District surveillance reports are submitted weekly to track the incidence of notifiable diseases (such as Ebola, Cholera and Lassa fever), detect clusters of unexplained deaths and trigger immediate investigation.
