This means we aim to attach priority to disability in all our policies and programmes as well as supporting disability-targeted programmes. Last year we conducted a review of our first year of implementing the Disability Framework. This means we attach priority to disability in all our policies and programmes as well as supporting disability-targeted programmes.</p><p>We have made significant progress in mainstreaming disability inclusion in our humanitarian response, including the development of an internal guidance note on ageing and disability in humanitarian response. We will build on this foundation by supporting partners to deliver on our commitment to include disaggregated data on age and disability as part of our requirements for funding humanitarian proposals, and advocating for the use of the Minimum Standards on Ageing and Disability Inclusion with humanitarian partners to improve the mainstreaming of the principles of inclusion.</p><p>DFID has funded the Disability Rights Fund (DRF) since its inception in 2008 and our current grant of over £2.6 million between 2013 and 2016 reinforces our commitment to the DRF. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/03/2016 answer text <p>DFID’s Disability Framework, published in 2015, recognises that including people with disabilities through local Disabled Person’s Organisations (DPOs) in the design, delivery and monitoring and evaluation of policy and programmes is critically important. This means both hearing first-hand the challenges people with disabilities are facing and identifying effective approaches for collectively addressing these challenges.</p><p>Many DFID country offices are engaging directly with local people with disabilities to shape and direct their work. For example, in Rwanda we are engaged with the National Council of Disabled Persons and the National Union of Disabled Organisations of Rwanda (NUDOR), which represents a large number of DPOs. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/05/2016 answer text <p>The humanitarian crises in Syria and Iraq have placed many women and girls at risk of exploitation and insecurity. In both countries, DFID continues to work with the UN, NGOs and international community to ensure women’s rights are protected.</p><p>The UK has pledged over £2.3 billion in response to the Syria crisis since 2011. Of this, DFID has provided £5 million to UNFPA inside Syria. As part of this assistance UNFPA distribute hygiene or “dignity” kits to preserve and promote the hygiene and dignity of displaced women and adolescent girls as well as men, and to allow their social integration while away from home. These include sanitary napkins, underwear, and a range of practical personal hygiene items. With UK support, UNFPA alone distributed 50,900 dignity kits inside Syria in 2015. UNFPA and other partners are also improving access to reproductive health services inside Syria.</p><p>The UK has committed £79.5 million of humanitarian assistance to Iraq since summer 2014. This includes cash assistance for vulnerable displaced Iraqis, allowing them to prioritise what they need most. Through the UN- managed Iraq Humanitarian Pooled Fund, we fund a number of projects meeting the most urgent needs of displaced Iraqis including emergency healthcare, water and sanitation, and protection services for women and girls. We coordinate our assistance with other donors. Other donors have historically supported housing for displaced people. Currently our assessment is that conditions for large-scale return or voluntary resettlement are not present in the absence of a ceasefire and steps towards a peace agreement. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) leads on the UK’s work in promoting freedom of religion and belief overseas. DFID works closely with the FCO to raise concerns about freedom of religion with partner governments to ensure that all citizens can claim their rights. This is indeed part of our work to promote the golden thread of democracy, and achieve Goal 16 and the other Sustainable Development Goals. For the UK, the Sustainable Development Goals’ pledge to leave no one behind is one of the most important principles of the post-2015 Agenda. We have been a champion of Goal 16 to promote peaceful and inclusive societies and access to justice for all. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/04/2016 answer text <p>We are very concerned about appalling crimes committed by Daesh in Iraq and Syria, including against women and young children. We strongly condemn their use of sexual slavery, sexual violence, rape and kidnapping. Likewise, we have seen reports of children in Daesh-held areas being forced into military training after the militant group closed down their schools - leaving an estimated total of over 670,000 children without the opportunity of a proper education.</p><p>In Syria and Iraq, DFID continues to work with the UN and the international community to ensure all civilians’ rights are protected. However, we do not earmark our aid as being solely for Daesh victims or victims of other groups. The UK is committed to supporting the most vulnerable people wherever they are, in accordance with international humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, independence and impartiality. Consequently all UK funded humanitarian assistance is distributed on the basis of need, and need alone, regardless of politics, religion, ethnicity or place of origin.</p><p>The UK has pledged over £2.3 billion for the response to the Syria crisis. Some of this funding is enabling partner agencies to provide specialist assistance to those affected by sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), including safe spaces, psychosocial support, cash assistance and reproductive healthcare. By June 2015, UK assistance had provided SGBV focussed interventions to over 197,000 individuals in Syria and the region. In addition, more than 673,000 children have been reached with child protection initiatives across Syria and the region.</p><p>Ultimately, the best way of safeguarding these children is by defeating Daesh and establishing a lasting peace in both Syria and Iraq.
