unstar this property answer text <p>The UK has committed £22 million to support the humanitarian response to cyclone Idai covering Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. As at 25 March, £850,000 of emergency assistance has already been allocated to Zimbabwe. This money has provided essential medical and nutritional supplies and will support urgent efforts to improve access to water and sanitation. We are also supporting psycho-social support and trauma counselling to affected children. We continue to monitor the situation very closely and stand ready to provide further support if needed.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>DFID is providing £5m of new funding for civil society organisations helping Zimbabwe build a more democratic electoral process in the run-up to and following the 2018 elections. This includes:</p><p>- Empowering citizens and civil society to hold the state to account and to call for changes to the electoral commission and legislation to better represent the people</p><p>- Improving the electoral environment, for example by helping people to register to vote, including women, and those with disabilities</p><p>- Supporting civil society organisations to monitor elections, including around issues of security, human rights and equality</p><p>- Improving observation and monitoring of voting to ensure it is free and fair</p><p>- Surveying voters to find out more about the voting process and what is preventing people from registering to vote.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism (UNVIM) is a new mechanism, developed by the UN. It involves setting up an internationally-staffed maritime verification centre which is expected to replace the existing informal Coalition mechanism.</p><br /><p>The UN Regional Humanitarian Coordinator has been working with the Government of Yemen and other relevant parties to ensure that UNVIM is established in the most effective way and can fit with the requirements of UNSCR 2216.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The <a href="http://dlca.logcluster.org/display/public/DLCA/2.1+Yemen+Port+Assessment" target="_blank">UN logistics cluster</a> has publically available information on Yemen’s wider port capacity.</p><p>The largest cranes in the port of Hodeidah, Yemen’s largest port, have been severely damaged by the conflict in Yemen which is restricting humanitarian and commercial access. The World Food Programme is procuring mobile cranes for Hodeidah port to improve capacity and we expect these to arrive imminently. Furthermore, ships chartered by humanitarian actors tend to have on-board cranes meaning some cargo can be unloaded onto the port.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>In 2015/16 DFID provided £90m in direct assistance to Yemen; in 2016/17 £112m; and in 2017/18 we are providing £139m. On top of this DFID also provides support to Yemen through our global programmes and through our multilateral contributions.</p><p>Our contribution this year makes us the second-largest donor to the UN’s 2017 Yemen Appeal and the third-largest humanitarian donor to Yemen overall. At the same time, the UK continues to play a leading role in lobbying for a political solution to the conflict, as well as pressing the international community to step up their own contributions to Yemen.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>According to the recently published <a href="https://www.humanitarianresponse.info/en/operations/yemen/document/yemen-2017-humanitarian-needs-overview" target="_blank">UN Humanitarian Needs Overview for Yemen</a>, almost half a million children under 5 suffer from severe acute malnutrition, and 2.8 million children and pregnant or lactating women are affected by moderate acute malnutrition.</p><p>In 2016/17, the UK is providing £19 million to UNICEF to treat children with severe acute malnutrition and support mobile health clinics. Last year, we helped treat over 150,000 children under 5 for severe acute malnutrition.</p> more like this
