star this property answer text <p>In 2015/16, DFID provided £250,000 to support Yemeni refugees in Djibouti. This funding helped to provide emergency supplies to 1000 refugees, such as blankets and clean water, and to support rescue at sea operations.</p><p>Further, through UK-attributed funding to ECHO (EU Co-ordination of Humanitarian Aid Operations), we provided £56,000 in 2016 to support refugees and migrants in Djibouti with clean water and shelter.</p><p>In 2015/16 the UK provided £90 million in funding for the crisis in Yemen which helped to provide over 1 million Yemenis with food, clean water and medical assistance.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The <a href="http://dlca.logcluster.org/display/public/DLCA/2.1+Yemen+Port+Assessment" target="_blank">UN logistics cluster</a> has publically available information on Yemen’s wider port capacity.</p><p>The largest cranes in the port of Hodeidah, Yemen’s largest port, have been severely damaged by the conflict in Yemen which is restricting humanitarian and commercial access. The World Food Programme is procuring mobile cranes for Hodeidah port to improve capacity and we expect these to arrive imminently. Furthermore, ships chartered by humanitarian actors tend to have on-board cranes meaning some cargo can be unloaded onto the port.</p> more like this

We are also monitoring port capacity across the country.</p><p>We are also calling on all parties to the conflict to protect civilian infrastructure, including Hodeidah port, from further damage; and to restart political talks in order to end the conflict.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The conflict has destroyed or damaged critical infrastructure (for example, the largest cranes in the port of Hodeidah) and the current phase of military activity along the Red Sea is already further limiting the flow of life-saving commodities through Hodeidah port. Over 80% of food assistance in the last 6 months of 2016 entered the country through Hodeidah and neighbouring Salif ports. If Hodeidah port ceases to function, this would accelerate the onset of famine.</p><p>We continue to discuss options to improve port infrastructure in Hodeidah with Gulf countries, the US and the UN. However, recent events have made the successful delivery of mobile cranes for Hodeidah unlikely in the short-term.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK is playing a leading role in responding to the crisis in Yemen. DFID Ministers regularly have discussions with international counterparts, organisations, and NGOs on the situation in Yemen. The World Humanitarian Summit in May was obviously a key moment for such discussions.</p><p>Senior officials also have regular discussions on the situation in Yemen. Mark Lowcock, DFID Permanent Secretary, recently discussed the humanitarian and economic situation in Yemen with international counterparts on 11 July, at the annual Tidewater conference of the Development Assistance Committee of the Organisation for Economic Co-ordination and Development (OECD-DAC).</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

The funding commitments listed in the Answer of 15 June 2016 to Question 39874 support men, women and children affected by the conflict; it is not possible to say exactly how much has been used specifically to support children. Since the UN reports that the conflict in Yemen has spread to 20 out of 22 governorates, it is likely that most children in Yemen have been directly or indirectly affected by the conflict.</p> more like this
