Between 2011 and 2015 DFID supported over 11 million children into primary and lower secondary school (7.5 million children in countries considered fragile), and training 380,000 teachers through our multilateral partners. In 2015, the UK again committed to support a further 11 million children in the poorest countries to gain a decent education by 2020.</p><p>DFID is also supporting up to one million of the world’s poorest girls through DFID’s Girls Education Challenge (GEC). We are using UK aid to its full effect to counter the health, humanitarian, and economic risks and impact of this pandemic in the developing world. We are working hard to ensure that our help reaches those most in need through close collaboration with our partners. The UK has, to date, pledged £744 million of UK aid to help end this pandemic as quickly as possible.</p><p>Our funding is supporting a range of initiatives and partners to ensure that it can reach those who need it the most. Total allocations for 2014/15 will depend on decisions to be taken on the basis of evolving needs. In Iraq, the UK has allocated £23m of humanitarian aid for 2014/15.</p><p> </p><p>In Iraq, DFID support has included airdrops of assistance onto Mount Sinjar and in the Iraqi town of Amerli. This will be one part of DFID’s balanced portfolio of investments in malaria control, delivered through bilateral and multilateral channels, support to health systems and service delivery and support to research.</p><br /><p>The UK has pledged a contribution to the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria of up to £1 billion between 2014 and 2016, subject to a 10% donor share cap. This will dramatically improve the lives of millions of people, saving approximately 580,000 lives by preventing 8.4m new malaria, HIV and TB infections. Despite the deployment of 12,000 peace-keepers, the country remains marred by sectarian tension, criminal violence, arms proliferation and armed groups.</p><br /><p>In September the UK approved a £7 million uplift in our assistance to CAR and CAR refugees to address rising needs and aid gaps, bringing UK humanitarian funding to £25 million in 2015 and £58 million since 2013. This makes the UK the third largest humanitarian donor to CAR after the US and the EU in 2015. The National Indicative Programme (NIP) for Eritrea under EDF 11 was considered at the Committee on the 17<sup>th</sup> of November 2015 and received a positive opinion. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/12/2015 answer text <p>Accurately recording births, deaths, adoptions, marriages and divorces will be critical in achieving the newly agreed Global Goals. In fragile contexts, registration is essential to enable refugees to obtain humanitarian services and protection under international law.</p><br /><p>Although globally, the births of nearly 230 million children under age five have never been recorded and almost two thirds of deaths are not counted at all, some progress is being made, largely in Latin America and Asia. The increasing use of technology and the private sector have played important enabling roles in building this momentum and will continue to be crucial to further progress.</p><br /><p>DFID supports statistical capacity building and implementation of national statistical plans in a number of countries through global programmes such as the Statistics for Results Facility Catalytic Fund (SRF-CF), implemented in eight countries. In Nigeria, for example, SRF-CF supported eight outreach birth/death registration centres. DFID also provides bilateral support to countries’ national statistical systems.</p><br /><p>At a policy level, DFID supports the Commission for Information and Accountability (COIA) where CRVS is one of ten priority areas. DFID also provides support to the UNHCR, the mandated UN agency to advocate for the protection and promotion of the rights of refugees, which plays a crucial role in assisting refugees in with documentation. We continue to call for the full implementation of the relaxation of access restrictions for Gaza and, with robust monitoring, for the entry of essential items on the dual-use list to allow for rehabilitation of the water network. We also continue to press both parties to reconvene the Joint Water Committee to facilitate further approval of key projects that will improve Palestinian access to water.</p><p>Through the UN FAO, DFID has invested up to £1.24m to help vulnerable rural farmers in Area C support their families through increased incomes from agricultural production. More than 6.3 million primary school children and 3.7 million secondary school children have benefited since 2011. Working in partnership with provincial governments and the private sector, we aim to get more children into school, staying longer, and learning more.</p><br /><p>DFID has funded the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) for the last three years. The report includes a wide range of data on education, including pupil enrolment, provision of facilities, and learning outcomes. In their 2015 report, published on 17 December 2015, ASER reports on national progress on literacy in rural areas for example it shows that grade 5 literacy levels in English have improved by 7 per cent. DFID interventions in the education sector since 2011 are likely to have had a positive impact on literacy levels in Punjab and Khyber Phaktunkhwa, given the focus on improved facilities and teaching, and pupil and teacher attendance. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/03/2016 answer text <p>DFID’s Disability Framework, published in 2015, recognises that including people with disabilities through local Disabled Person’s Organisations (DPOs) in the design, delivery and monitoring and evaluation of policy and programmes is critically important. This means both hearing first-hand the challenges people with disabilities are facing and identifying effective approaches for collectively addressing these challenges.</p><p>Many DFID country offices are engaging directly with local people with disabilities to shape and direct their work. For example, in Rwanda we are engaged with the National Council of Disabled Persons and the National Union of Disabled Organisations of Rwanda (NUDOR), which represents a large number of DPOs. This means we aim to attach priority to disability in all our policies and programmes as well as supporting disability-targeted programmes. Last year we conducted a review of our first year of implementing the Disability Framework. This means we attach priority to disability in all our policies and programmes as well as supporting disability-targeted programmes.</p><p>We have made significant progress in mainstreaming disability inclusion in our humanitarian response, including the development of an internal guidance note on ageing and disability in humanitarian response. We will build on this foundation by supporting partners to deliver on our commitment to include disaggregated data on age and disability as part of our requirements for funding humanitarian proposals, and advocating for the use of the Minimum Standards on Ageing and Disability Inclusion with humanitarian partners to improve the mainstreaming of the principles of inclusion.</p><p>DFID has funded the Disability Rights Fund (DRF) since its inception in 2008 and our current grant of over £2.6 million between 2013 and 2016 reinforces our commitment to the DRF.
