star this property answer text Sudan faces a number of economic challenges. While US economic sanctions were lifted in late 2017, Sudan remains a challenging place to do business. The economic situation has been exacerbated by a shortage of foreign exchange which has resulted in fuel shortages. Sudan is still unable to access international financial assistance, in part due to its arrears to the International Monetary Fund and others and the failure to service its debt. Politically, the UK continues to work with the Government of Sudan to ensure that constitutional and political rights are respected. Sudan remains a Human Rights Priority Country for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. The UK continues to encourage Sudan to undertake macroeconomic and political reforms, including through the six-monthly Strategic Dialogue with the Government of Sudan. more like this

star this property answer text
The UK is committed to working with partners to meet the needs of the people of Sudan, regardless of the political situation. This is not dependent on fixed term-limits for governing and elected officials, but we do support the establishment of proper democratic processes. UK aid is currently channelled through multilateral organisations, international Non-Governmental Organisations and commercial partners, which are monitored by DFID in Sudan. During the 39 month transitional period the UK will continue to provide lifesaving aid to the most vulnerable and urge the Civilian-led Government of Sudan to undertake much needed economic and political reforms to support prosperity and the rights of the people of Sudan. We continue to stand ready to assist these efforts.
more like this

star this property answer text
The UK has continually been very clear in its messaging about the importance of Sudan respecting democratic norms and permitting open political space. DFID will provide support for the democratic process through our governance and economic reform programme, which has been specifically designed to respond to opportunities as they arise in Sudan. This could take the form of providing support to a range of civilian and civil society organisations to support their participation in the transition process. We also engage with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Global Britain Fund, which has provided support to democracy in Sudan through projects seeking to reinforce democratic scrutiny of government decisions at the National Assembly, and some support to policy making for opposition political parties.
more like this
