star this property answer text <p>My officials have not discussed the Confederation of British Industry’s (CBI) education and skills annual report with the CBI. We are aware of the need to deliver a national policy that is effective and delivers the cultural change in adult skills that is needed. That is why the National Retraining Scheme is being driven by a key partnership between the CBI, Trade Union Congress and government who are working together to develop a national policy that will genuinely make a difference.</p><p>We have also recently published findings from our Employer Skills Survey, which interviewed over 87,000 employers about their skills needs and challenges: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/employer-skills-survey-2017-uk-report" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/employer-skills-survey-2017-uk-report</a>. The survey findings will inform various Department for Education policies including the science, technology, engineering and mathematics strategy.</p> more like this

Friend, the Secretary of State, or other ministers, and the Chief Inspector of Ofsted on the financial sustainability of the further education sector.</p><p>We have been working to improve the financial resilience of the further education sector. We have already invested over £330 million to support college restructuring following the area review process. We are now considering the final applications for restructuring support, and expect the final figure to rise significantly before the programme ends next year.</p> more like this

When we launch the procurement, we will set out how much funding we are making available to cover the period from January 2018 to April 2019 – the date by which we aim to bring all employers onto the apprenticeship service.</p><p> </p><p>Decisions on future years’ funding will be made on the basis of ongoing monitoring of employer demand, performance and budgets.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The introduction of the apprenticeships levy puts the funding of apprenticeships on a sustainable long-term footing. The 2015 Spending Review set forward budgets for apprenticeship spending, and £2.5 billion will be invested in apprenticeships in England by 2019-20 – double the amount spent in 2010-11.</p><p> </p><p>Funds allocated in 2016/17, before the levy was introduced, were spent on apprenticeships. star this property answer text <p>We encourage businesses to look at how to use apprenticeships effectively within their organisations to meet their skills needs, as part of the wider training they provide.</p><p> </p><p>No existing training scheme can be reconfigured as an apprenticeship and receive public funding unless it meets strict quality and eligibility criteria i.e. it lasts at least 12 months, provides substantial new training for the individual (including a minimum 20% off-the-job training), and meets a recognised framework or standard.</p><p> </p><p>We have reaffirmed our commitment to reach 3 million new apprenticeship starts in England by 2020 and are still on track to meet that - with 1 million starts since May 2015.</p> more like this
