These contracts have a part to play in a modern, flexible labour market.</p><p>Government made exclusivity clauses in zero hour contracts unlawful in 2015, meaning individuals have more control over their lives and can work more hours with another employer if they wish. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/07/2017 answer text <p>This Government is clear that zero hours contracts should not be considered as an alternative to proper business planning or used as a permanent arrangement if it is not justifiable. They play a small but important part in the labour market, allowing flexibility for both employers and individuals. People on zero-hour contracts make up less than 3 per cent of the workforce and almost 70 per cent are happy with the number of hours they work, according to the latest ONS Labour Force Survey research (March 2015).</p><p>In May 2015 Government banned the use of exclusivity clauses in zero hours contracts so that people cannot be prevented from looking for or working elsewhere when their employer does not guarantee work.</p><p>Matthew Taylor in his Review of Modern Working Practices has proposed some reforms around zero-hour contracts and Government will consider the whole report carefully and make a full response later this year.</p> answering member constituency Stourbridge answering member printed Margot James question first answered 18/07/2017 15:16:52 answering member 4115 label Biography information for Margot James

	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/10/2017 answer text <p>I refer the noble Lord to the answer I gave to question UIN <a href="http://www.parliament.uk/business/publications/written-questions-answers-statements/written-question/Lords/2017-07-17/HL893/" target="_blank">HL893</a> that states that the government has not made an estimate of the social and economic consequences of restricting zero hours contracts to students and pensioners.</p><p> </p><p>The government has not assessed the social and economic consequences of restricting zero hours contracts to students and pensioners. The Matthew Taylor review found that zero hours contracts have a part to play in a modern, flexible labour market and benefit those who cannot or do not want to work in a regular contract.</p><p> </p><p>However, this government shares the concerns regarding flexible work arrangements. That is why in October 2016 my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister asked Matthew Taylor to carry out an independent review to consider employment practices and whether they need to change to keep pace with modern business models. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/04/2018 answer text <p>Nuclear power is a proven technology with modern reactors capable of reliably producing low-carbon electricity. Any new activity in the UK involving ionising radiation must first go through a process of regulatory Justification. This process requires that the overall societal benefits associated with the activity outweigh any potential health detriments. For any application involving a nuclear power station, the reliability of the proposed design and implications for energy security are carefully considered.</p><p> </p><p>My rt. hon. Friend the Secretary of State in December 2014 decided that the UK ABWR – the technology proposed by Horizon Nuclear Power for deployment at Wylfa Newydd – was Justified for use in the UK. This decision followed a robust assessment of the application, and periods of consultation on both the application and proposed decision. The full decision is available at <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-justification-of-practices-involving-ionising-radiation-regulations-2004" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-justification-of-practices-involving-ionising-radiation-regulations-2004</a>, with Chapter 5 specifically addressing the topics of energy security and reliability.
