CFDs provide efficient long-term support for, and incentivise investment in, low carbon electricity generation. Friend the Secretary of State made a statement to the House on Monday 25 June 2018 setting out our position on the support for the proposed Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon project. The Department’s analysis of the project and the proposed follow-on programme of lagoons was that it did not represent value for money. This remains the Department’s position.</p><p> </p><p>In February, the Minister of State for Energy and Clean Growth met the rt. hon. member for Orkney and Shetland, along with a cross-party delegation of Members of Parliament and representatives of the sector, to discuss the potential for alternative methods of funding early tidal stream and wave energy deployment.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>In 2010, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) published its feasibility assessment of a scheme to generate electricity from the tides of the Severn estuary. It found that, since the Severn estuary is highly dynamic, and without detailed information on specific projects, it was impossible to predict the impacts of the tidal power schemes surveyed with absolute certainty.</p><p>Environmental impacts, along with other relevant matters, would be considered as part of the relevant statutory planning processes when consent applications for tidal energy generation projects are submitted.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Marine Licences are issued in England and Wales by the Marine Management Organisation and Natural Resources Wales respectively. It is for the developers of projects to engage with the MMO and NRW directly on any marine licence application they wish to make.</p><p>The impact of any proposed new lagoons on habitats and wildlife, including the need for any alternative habitats, will be assessed as part of the consent or licence application process for those projects taking into account the requirements of any relevant legislation.</p> more like this
