These negotiations are ongoing and commercially sensitive.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The Government is accelerating all sources of domestic energy, including North Sea oil and gas production. Subject to the Climate Compatibility Checkpoint, The North Sea Transition Authority will be launching a new licensing round for North Sea oil and gas shortly, which is expected to lead to over 100 new licences being awarded.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial"> </ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The Government will also end the pause on shale gas extraction. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/05/2019 answer text <p>The Department routinely receives correspondence from members of the public and civil society groups in relation to the regulatory regime for shale gas extraction, including the traffic light system.</p><p> </p><p>The Traffic Light System for monitoring induced seismicity was introduced after consideration of advice from scientists, following operations at Cuadrilla’s Preese Hall site in 2011. The level of magnitude 0.5 at which operators must pause operations, was set in consultation with industry as an appropriate precautionary measure. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/05/2019 answer text <p>The UK regulatory regime for shale gas is considered among the most robust and stringent in the world.  In October 2018 we established a Shale Environmental Regulator Group (SERG) to act as a single-entry point for the environmental regulation of the shale gas industry and bring the three regulators (Oil and Gas Authority, the Environment Agency and the Health and Safety Executive) together to act as one coherent entity.</p><p> </p><p>Local communities have met with the regulators at public information events and community liaison groups. During fracking operations at the Preston New Road site in Lancashire the regulators provided newsletters to residents and published information online on ‘Citizen Space’, including inspection reports and results from environmental monitoring. This is providing financial assistance to local businesses, as well as improving infrastructure and skills.</p><p> </p><p>For instance, £47 million LGF award will release significant private sector investment in the York Central project. We are working with the sector, the unions and devolved administrations to support the UK steel sector to develop a long-term sustainable future for the UK steel industry. My Department commissioned independent research to identify high value opportunities for UK steel, worth up to £3.8 billion a year by 2030.</p><p> </p><p>In the 2018 Budget, the Government announced an Industrial Energy Transformation Fund with investment of £315 million to help businesses with high energy use to cut their bills and transition UK industry to a low carbon future.</p><p> </p><p>Since 2013, the Government has provided more than £312m in compensation to the steel sector to make energy costs more competitive, including over £53 million during 2018. We are working hard to make sure that UK producers of steel have the best possible chance of competing for and winning contracts across all Government procurement.
