	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/03/2017 answer text <p>In its response to Sir Eric Pickles’ review of electoral fraud, the Government announced its intention to run a number of pilot schemes at local government elections in May 2018. The pilot schemes are part of a comprehensive programme of reform that will enhance public confidence in our elections, and strengthen electoral integrity.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is keen to be inclusive in making plans to bring forward Sir Eric’s recommendations. The Government is conscious of the need to ensure that legitimate electors are not disenfranchised, and will give careful consideration to the impacts of the pilots. Over the coming weeks and months, the Government will be working with its key electoral partners, including the Electoral Commission, the Association of Electoral Administrators, and the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives, to set out in detail our plans for implementing and evaluating the pilot schemes.</p><p> </p><p>The pilot schemes will enable us to accurately determine the impact of asking voters in Great Britain to present identification before voting. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/03/2017 answer text <p>The Government provided £14 million across 2013/14 and 2014/15 to support the costs of activities – at a local and national level – to maximise the number of people on the register. £2.5 million of this was allocated to a number of civil society and national organisations, which looked at increasing registration amongst particular groups. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/09/2017 answer text <p>Following laws already passed by Parliament, which provided that the current Boundary Review should be based on the electoral registers from 2015, the independent and impartial Boundary Commissions are consulting on their proposals to deliver the boundary changes, and they will submit their final proposals to Parliament in autumn 2018. These reforms will ensure fair and equal representation for the voting public across the United Kingdom.</p><p> </p><p>Equalising the size of constituencies in the Boundary Review will ensure everyone’s vote will carry equal weight. Equally, there are many British citizens abroad who have fought for our country, dedicating their lives to our armed services. Their stake in our country must be respected. This Government will not deny them the opportunity to have their say in the way their country is governed. That is why we are committed to introducing votes for life for British citizens living abroad.</p><p>The Government estimates that a further 3 million British citizens resident overseas will be enfranchised under the ‘votes for life’ proposals set out in the policy statement published on 7 October 2016. The Government has made initial estimates of how many newly enfranchised overseas electors may register to vote, and will continue to further refine its estimates in light of new data as it becomes available.</p><p>The Government acknowledges that initial applications to register to vote from newly enfranchised overseas electors are likely to take longer to process than most other applications. This increase in staff time has been built into the Government’s estimates of the expected costs of this policy measure.
