answer text
The Secretary of State recently met with water company bosses, including Thames Water, to make it clear that water firms will be held accountable for their performance for customers and the environment. Furthermore, after writing to Ofwat, the Secretary of State has secured agreement that funding for vital infrastructure investment is ringfenced and can only be spent on upgrades benefiting customers and the environment. Ofwat will also ensure that when money for investment is not spent, companies refund customers, with money never allowed to be diverted for bonuses, dividends or salary increases.

The Government also announced a new Water (Special Measures) Bill, which will turn around the performance of water companies, in the King’s Speech. The Bill will strengthen regulation, give the water regulator new powers to ban the payment of bonuses if environmental standards are not met and increase accountability for water executives. These are the first critical steps in enabling a long-term and transformative reset of the entire water sector.

I would also refer the hon. answer text
The government’s approach to China is guided by three pillars: strengthening our national security protections, aligning and cooperating with our partners, and engaging where it is consistent with our interest. Recent steps to strengthen our national security protections include: scrutiny of foreign investment in the UK under the National Security and Investment Act and passing the National Security Act, which overhauls the United Kingdom’s espionage laws.

The government greatly values the independent oversight provided by the Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC). The Cabinet Office regularly engages with the Committee to support their oversight, including on China, and to provide updates on our response to policy recommendations found in a wide range of ISC reports.

The steps the government has taken to implement recommendations in the China report can be found in the Government Response to the Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament Report ‘China’: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/government-response-to-the-isc-china-report

answer text
The Secretary of State is committed to ensuring that the National Health Service and social care system have the nurses, midwives, doctors, carers and other health professionals that it needs. The Department has a detailed understanding of how many EU27 staff work in the NHS and regular discussions are held with the Home Secretary and Cabinet colleagues to ensure that this informs our plans for the workforce and the Government’s negotiations with the European Union.

On Monday 26 June the Government published “The United Kingdom's exit from the European Union: safeguarding the position of EU citizens living in the UK and UK nationals living in the EU”. The policy paper outlines how the Government intends to protect the rights of EU citizens in the UK and UK nationals in the EU.

As Brexit negotiations continue, the Department and its arm’s length bodies will continue to support the health system’s preparation for Brexit to ensure the NHS is able to deliver the services that patients rely on.

As part of our workforce planning, the Department is undertaking analysis of overall staffing levels across the NHS as a result of the UK’s exit from the EU and the future immigration system. We would expect Dudley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to have taken account of the size and type of workforce required by the Multi-speciality Community Provider and as with all CCGs this will be considered as part of the work we are doing.
