answer text <p>We aim to consult on the third tranche of Marine Conservation Zones in English waters in the first half of 2018, with designations within 12 months of that date. The objective is to complete our contribution to the international ecologically-coherent network of Marine Protected Areas in the North East Atlantic by including a representative range of the species and habitats found in our seas.</p><p>Marine protected areas in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are a devolved matter.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Defra undertook a review of implementation of the EU Nature Directives, published in March 2012, which also fed into the Law Commission’s ongoing review of wildlife legislation at that time. The Law Commission published its recommendations on 10 November 2015, to which the Government responded on 22 November 2016.</p><p> </p><p>The Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006 is currently subject to post-legislative scrutiny. Defra’s memorandum provides a preliminary assessment of the Act, which has been submitted to the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee. Our policy framework will respect the work of farmers and support environmental goods.</p><p> </p><p>Continued support is important, and so is reform. We need to take the opportunity that being outside the Common Agricultural Policy will give us to use public money to reward environmentally responsible land use.</p><p> </p><p>We have no intention of weakening our current environmental protections.
