No decision has been made in relation to students who sit the first new GCSEs in summer 2017 and enter post-16 education that September. answer text <p>I am replying on the behalf of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. The Government is actively working to help all construction firms including those outside London. We are working with the industry to remove barriers to growth by improving the planning system and access to finance, and easing the burden of regulation.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>On the demand side, we are stimulating the house building industry - in Autumn Statement 2013 my Rt Hon Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced a £1bn extension of the Local Infrastructure Fund for large scale housing sites, to unlock around 250,000 homes over 6 years. We are also stimulating infrastructure development. The National Infrastructure Plan (NIP) sets a strategic vision for forthcoming infrastructure needs. It has identified a pipeline of over 500 projects costing around £250bn to 2015 and beyond.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>On the supply side, we are working closely with the Construction Leadership Council to ensure that the industry is well placed to respond to growing markets, tackling issues such as skills, innovation, sustainability, productivity, efficiency and export performance.</p><p> </p>

answer text <p>The abiding principle of our plan for education is that schools should do everything possible to prepare young people for life in modern Britain. Ensuring that young people are prepared for the workplace and equipped with the skills, experience and qualifications that employers want is central to this.</p><p>My Rt hon. friend the Secretary of State for Education has made clear that she wants to see improvements to the quality of careers advice and guidance available to young people, with more schools and employers working together to ensure that pupils make the transition from education into work successfully. We have issued revised statutory guidance, underpinning the duty to secure independent careers guidance, to strengthen the requirement for schools to build links with employers to inspire and mentor students. We have also asked the National Careers Service to broker those relationships where that is needed. We are keeping these changes under review and are considering what further action may be necessary.</p><p>We are linking the education system more closely to the world of work with an emphasis on learning practical skills through new Technical Awards for 14- to- 16-year-olds, and Tech Levels for 16- to- 19-year-olds, providing a high-quality vocational alternative to A levels that leads to a recognised occupation. The introduction of Study Programmes for all 16- to- 19-year-olds is also expanding the provision of genuine work experience and work-related learning for all post-16 students. We have invested in new apprenticeships and introduced traineeships to give young people the skills and experience they need to compete successfully for a job.</p>

This will put employers in the driving seat in terms of securing the most appropriate training, giving them a greater stake in guaranteeing that the training provision their apprentices receive is high quality. answer text <p>The national Community Learning (CL) objectives focus strongly on tackling disadvantage, including digital exclusion. Data for 2012/13 show that 9.4 per cent of all CL enrolments were in ICT subjects, with 97,310 learners participating.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) separately funds the Tinder Foundation to deliver a wide range of digital inclusion projects. Many BIS-funded learning providers - mainly Local Authority adult education services - work closely with the Tinder Foundation and UK online centres on a range of digital inclusion projects.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In addition BIS has run a series of basic digital skills training programmes with Tinder in recent years. answer text <p>BIS contributes £210m pa to support community learning (CL) via the Community Learning budget, which is managed by the Skills Funding Agency. Funding is allocated via a grant arrangement with 315 learning providers, including Local Authority adult education services, Further Education colleges, and voluntary sector organisations. Many learning providers work with local sub-contractors.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The CL budget helps to support an on-going adult education offer in every area, rather than short term projects.
