answer text <p>The UK Government has protected jobs in Wales’ tourism sector through a far-reaching range of measures, including cuts to VAT, incentives to keep workers in their jobs and the Enjoy Summer Safely campaign, which encouraged thousands of people to get back out and enjoy the best Wales has to offer.</p><p> </p><p>We recognise the challenging times ahead. We are increasing support for businesses and employees in Wales by extending the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme and Self-Employed Income Support Scheme. Both schemes provide invaluable support to the hard-hit tourism and hospitality sectors that are so crucially important in Wales.</p><p> </p><p>Our Plan for Jobs will also make available up to £30 billion to protect jobs, including those in the tourism sector.</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>I appreciate the huge impact Covid-19 has had on business owners and employees in the Welsh tourism sector, and have met with stakeholders across the industry to discuss concerns.</p><p> </p><p>I am in regular discussions with the Welsh Government on the reopening of the tourism sector to ensure that Welsh businesses can make the most of this summer season. I wrote to the First Minister on 9 June on this issue. I welcome the Welsh Government’s plans for a partial reopening of the tourism sector in July, and I will continue to urge them to do more to support this vital industry.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>I continue to hold discussions with the First Minister on the reopening of Wales’ tourism industry to ensure that Wales is well placed to attract visitors whilst respecting social distancing and to make the most of the summer season.</p><p> </p><p>Based on the scientific evidence available, the UK Government has set out a clear plan on how we will rebuild the UK for a world with Covid-19 whilst respecting devolved decision making. Subject to scientific advice, next month will see the partial reopening of some tourist accommodation in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
