answer text <p>The voting rights which will continue to be enjoyed by British and Irish citizens are reciprocal. British citizens may vote in local and parliamentary elections in Ireland but not Presidential elections or referendums. This reciprocal right is reflected in the voting rights of Irish citizens living in the United Kingdom.</p><p> </p><p>I continue to believe that a majority in Northern Ireland favour Northern Ireland's place in the United Kingdom. The test for a border poll set out in the 1998 Northern Ireland Act has therefore not been met.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government has set out several public commitments, including in the Budget and in the Confidence and Supply Agreement, to work towards a ‘comprehensive and ambitious’ set of City Deals across Northern Ireland.</p><p>A timetable has not been set to deliver a City Deal, however officials from across Whitehall and the Northern Ireland Civil Service have been engaging with Derry City and Strabane Council and partners on their proposals. I look forward to considering these proposals in due course.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Since May 2007, Northern Ireland’s devolved institutions have been responsible for the introduction of the Irish language Act. It is disappointing that the Northern Ireland parties have been unable to reach an agreement on how to proceed in this area.</p><p> </p><p>The UK Government will continue to do all it can to support delivery of an effective, stable, power-sharing devolved Government, so that decisions on issues such as the Irish language and other languages are taken by locally accountable politicians.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The responsibility for policing and justice matters in Northern Ireland has been devolved to the Northern Ireland Executive since April 2010. All decisions on prosecutions are taken independently of Government and in accordance with the Code for Prosecutors. While the Northern Ireland Office does not have a full record of prosecutions, I am aware that since November 2015 prosecutions have been brought against three former members of the armed forces for Troubles-related offences. In addition to previous or current prosecutions there are a number of coronial inquests examining cases involving members of the armed forces, while all deaths caused by members of the armed forces are being re-examined by the Legacy Investigations Branch of the PSNI.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>In the 2014 Stormont House Agreement, the Government reaffirmed “the need for respect for and recognition of the Irish language in Northern Ireland, consistent with the Council of Europe Charter on Regional or Minority Languages”.</p><p> </p><p>Under the devolution settlement the UK Government retains responsibility for broadcasting, whilst the majority of responsibility for language issues rests with the Northern Ireland Executive, including policy relating to the promotion of minority languages, including Irish. Education is also a devolved matter in Northern Ireland.</p><p> </p><p>In relation to broadcasting, the BBC Charter Review considered the BBC’s contribution to minority language broadcasting. The BBC Framework Agreement includes, for the first time, a specific clause which provides a clear commitment for the BBC to continue to deliver output in the Irish, and Ulster-Scots, language.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has also committed to funding the Irish Language Broadcasting Fund and the Ulster-Scots Broadcasting Fund over this Spending Review period, which are administered through Northern Ireland Screen.</p><p> </p><p> </p>
