answer text <p>Although we recognise the opportunity that a Royal Commission could present to look at structural questions in the criminal justice system, we think it is right that, following the pandemic and the Criminal Bar Association’s disruptive action, we focus on delivering priority measures to speed up justice for victims and improve the justice system over the coming months.</p><p>We continue to keep issues in the wider criminal justice system under review.</p> more like this

answer text <p>We continue to prioritise recovery in the criminal justice system and it is right to do so in light of the disruption caused by the Criminal Bar Association’s recent action. Our focus is on delivering our priorities over the coming months including strengthening victims’ rights through the Victims’ Bill and overhauling the UK human rights framework through the Bill of Rights, which will safeguard the wider public interest, while restoring some common sense to our justice system.</p><p>We continue to keep issues in the wider criminal justice system under review.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The pandemic has meant significant new programmes of work have been established in the criminal justice system to support recovery and build back better.</p><p> </p><p>In the last few months alone, we have published a Victims consultation, a Prisons White Paper, the first national and local criminal justice scorecards and started a consultation on a Bill of Rights. We have also announced the most ambitious reform of criminal legal aid in decades, with the total level of investment being the highest in a decade.
