answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/10/2018 answer text <p>It is only right that tenants of social housing expect their homes to be safe and decent. In England, all registered providers of social housing must comply with the regulatory standards set by the independent Regulator of Social Housing. This includes the requirement that they meet all the relevant legal health and safety requirements for the occupants in their homes, and that tenants’ homes meet the government’s Decent Homes Standard and continue to maintain their homes to at least this standard. They must also provide a cost-effective repairs and maintenance service that responds to the needs of, and offers choices to, tenants and has the objective of getting repairs and improvements right the first time.</p><p>Non-decent homes made up 13 per cent of all social housing in England in 2016 – down from 20 per cent in 2010. We are committed to ensuring that the Decent Homes Standard is demanding enough and delivers the right standards for social housing alongside other tenures. That is why, in our recent Green Paper on social housing, we asked if there are changes to what constitutes a decent home we should consider and if we need additional measures to make sure social homes are safe and decent. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/10/2018 answer text <p>Under the tenancy deposit protection legislation introduced in the Housing Act 2004, all landlords letting on assured shorthold tenancies are required to protect their tenants' deposits in a government-approved scheme within 30 days of taking the deposit.</p><p>If a landlord fails to protect the deposit they cannot evict the tenant using a section 21 notice. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/10/2018 answer text <p>The Social Housing Green Paper recognises that many landlords play a role that goes beyond their key responsibilities, which includes providing signposting to vital services such as mental health services. Through the Green Paper, we are seeking to gather evidence on the impact of the important role that many social landlords are playing.</p><p>Social housing and more widely, supported housing provides a vital service for vulnerable people, including people with mental health issues. Safeguarding provision and supply of appropriate supported accommodation is a priority for my Department and we will continue to provide capital grant funding to promote new supply of supported housing. Our recent announcement confirming that funding for all supported housing will stay in Housing Benefit, will also give confidence to the sector to continue to invest in new supply. We are also reviewing oversight arrangements for all supported housing.
