answer text
This practice poses a significant threat to UK and Western interests. We are taking a range of measures to dissuade current and former UK pilots from being recruited. We also want to ensure that China understands that our previous silence on this matter should not be interpreted as acceptance or approval of this activity.

We are issuing threat guidance to personnel at risk of being approached. We are reminding personnel of their obligations to protect sensitive information acquired during their tenure as crown or civil servants; we will be looking at options to tighten the contractual obligations of Service leavers. We are also encouraging the reporting of any recruitment activity targeting pilots or any other specialist area of Defence. The alert has been issued to relevant personnel across Defence, including to partners in defence industry. We are also actively sharing information with key allies.

more like this

answer text
The Government remains committed to awarding appropriate payments to former locally employed staff in Afghanistan who were injured as a result of their employment with the Ministry of Defence (MOD). Those locally employed staff would not be assessed in the same way as members of the UK Armed Forces or veterans because they were never members of the UK military.

However, payments are based on Judicial College guidelines that inform personal injury cases, and our published criteria, but were also designed to reflect the socio-economic conditions of Afghanistan. For those Afghans who were injured and then subsequently resettled to the UK, a review was conducted in 2017 to ensure their medical payments were uplifted to reflect the socio-economic conditions of the UK where they are now living.

In 2020 the Government published the Ex-Gratia Medical payments review policy https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/ex-gratia-medical-payments-reviews

This enables individuals who wish to have their cases re-assessed and those whose condition has deteriorated beyond their original prognosis, or those who have developed a late-onset condition, to receive a fair full and final payment without prejudice.

answer text
The MOD is using Government employment records, and records held by groups representing eligible Afghans, with whom we are working closely, to quickly identify and process applications from those who meet the criteria of the ARAP scheme. Those criteria encompass a range of personnel, focussing on those who worked directly for or alongside UK Armed Forces.

We estimate that there are approximately 6,000 eligible individuals (including family members) still to relocate to the UK. This includes those under-going UK visa processing in third countries.

Supporting the movement of eligible ARAP persons out of Afghanistan is complex given the volatile political situation and the heightened risk to life, but despite this we are successfully moving individuals to safety. Our work with third country partners is critical and we are very grateful for their support.
more like this
