answer text <p>The Joint Combating Drugs Unit is a cross-government unit responsible for driving, co-ordinating and overseeing delivery of the Drug Strategy. It comprises full-time civil servants who are seconded from key government departments.</p><p>The Drug Strategy includes commitments owned by the six drug strategy departments (the Department of Health and Social Care, the Ministry of Justice, the Department of Work and Pensions, the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, the Department for Education and the Home Office) to be delivered over the strategy’s 10-year timeframe.</p><p>The Joint Combating Drugs Unit will monitor progress with these and as the Combating Drugs Minister, a cross-government role with overarching accountability for delivery of the ambitions and outcomes in the strategy, I will present an annual report to Parliament. I will also work with the Senior Responsible Owners of local Combating Drugs Partnerships to provide the appropriate support and challenge on local cross-system performance while departments will retain oversight of their delivery partners and specific programmes.</p>

answer text <p>The Home Office does not currently report on the average time that is taken between the date of an asylum claim to the date of a substantive asylum interview taking place. However, the Home Office does publish data on the number asylum applications awaiting an initial decision by duration, for main applicants only. This data can be found at Asy_04 of the published Immigration Statistics: <a href="http://List%20of%20tables%20-%20GOV.UK%20(www.gov.uk)." target="_blank">List of tables - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).</a></p><p> </p><p>The Home Office currently have several specialist decision-making units, including a unit progressing older asylum claims. We are also working to increase the number of decision makers, shorten and improve asylum casework training and consolidation. This investment in our people will speed up processing times and increase the throughput of asylum decisions.</p><p> </p><p>The decision-making route remains the same for all asylum applications however we have created additional hubs to provide a greater ownership, improved consistency, and management of the cohorts to ensure quick decisions can be made.</p><p>The Asylum Transformation programme is working to transform the asylum system and continue to streamline and simplify processes to speed up decision making to increase efficiency and output. The development and delivery of changes to the asylum process across the end-to-end asylum system include the increased use of technology, improved screening and accelerated decision-making procedures to drive delivery efficiency.</p>

answer text <p>The Home Office is already taking steps to simplify immigration law, simplifying the Immigration Rules and consolidating primary legislation as part of its Simplification Programme of work.</p><p>This Programme of work is part of our response to the Law Commission’s recommendations on Simplifying the Immigration Rules and recommendation in the Windrush Lessons Learned report to consolidate immigration law.</p><p>Since autumn 2020, over 30 immigration routes have been simplified and more are reviewed and simplified with each major rules change.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government is committed to tackling substance misuse and working with Dame Carol Black to ensure high quality services are in place to support people dependent on drugs.</p><p>On 27 July we published an initial response to Part 1 and Part 2 of Dame Carol Black’s review, outlining the urgent action needed to turn the tide on drug-related deaths and get more people access to higher quality services. As part of this response, the government committed to publishing a new drug strategy which will respond in full to Dame Carol’s recommendations.</p><p>The strategy will build on the £148m package the Government announced in January, which included <em>£80m for drug treatment services right across England</em>. The strategy will present our whole of government approach to drive down drug supply and demand, including support for people through treatment and recovery.</p> more like this
