answer text
The British Government is concerned at reports of fighting in Damt in recent weeks. Damt is assessed by the UN as experiencing high access constraints, meaning humanitarian operations are faced with great difficulty in delivering assistance due to active conflict, insecurity and bureaucratic impediments. We continue to urge all parties to the conflict to do all they can facilitate rapid, safe and unhindered humanitarian access across the country.
more like this

answer text
The British Government pays close attention to the situation of Karen and Shan refugees in nine camps along Thailand's border with Burma. DFID has committed to spend £6.7 million over the period 2016-2020 to support these camps. Our Ambassador to Burma, DFID staff from Burma and an official from the British Embassy Bangkok visited Mae La and Ban Mai Nai Soi camps in October 2018 and also met representatives of the Shan, Karenni and Karen communities to stress the UK's commitment to Burma's peace process. Our Embassy in Bangkok has asserted in meetings with the Thai Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Foreign Affairs that conditions are not in place for these refugees to return to Burma.
more like this

answer text
We welcome the expected resumption of the High Level Revitalisation Forum (HLRF) talks in South Sudan on 17 May. However, the British Government is disappointed that the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (COHA) signed by all parties in December last year has not held, and that the HLRF has so far failed to generate serious commitments from the parties to compromise.

We strongly condemn ongoing violations of the COHA, and urge the Intergovernmental Authority on Development to take immediate action to ensure that those who violate any agreement, or undermine the peace process, face consequences for their actions, to leave the parties in no doubt about the region's commitment to peace.
more like this

answer text
The Prime Minister, the Foreign Secretary and I raised a number of bilateral issues, including all our dual-national consular cases, with our Iranian counterparts in the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in September. Iran’s position on dual nationality makes progress on our consular cases difficult; nonetheless we continue to raise these cases with the Iranian authorities at the highest levels and at every available opportunity. We assess that the approach we currently take is the one that is the most likely to be in the best interests of each of our dual-national prisoners in Iran.
more like this

answer text We are aware of the UN Secretary General’s annual report on Children in Armed Conflict which was published on 2 June, which includes a section outlining the impact of the conflict in Yemen on children. The conflict in Yemen has had a significant impact on children, in terms of the numbers of child casualties, the recruitment of children as soldiers, and attacks on hospitals and schools. We consider all these reports very carefully. We note the announcement by the UN Secretary General on 6 June that removed the listing of the Saudi Arabian-led Coalition from the report’s annex, pending the conclusion of a joint review by the UN and Saudi Arabia on the cases and numbers cited in the text. We welcome co-operation between the UN and Saudi Arabia to look in to this matter. A political solution remains the best way to bring this conflict and the suffering of the Yemeni people to an end. The UK Government remains fully committed to this endeavour. more like this
