answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/11/2018 answer text <p>We believe the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA) remains the best way of preventing a nuclear-armed Iran and we are determined to see it maintained for as long as Iran complies with it. The deal is a critical agreement that makes the world a safer place and it is working; Iran remains constrained by the strict nuclear limits in the deal and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) retains unprecedented access to monitor and verify Iran's activities. IAEA reports continue to confirm that Iran is adhering to the nuclear limits in the JCPoA.</p><p>As set out in my Written Ministerial Statement to Parliament on Monday 5 November, we have been clear with the US about our determination to preserve the JCPoA, and the fact that this is driven by our national security interests. The UK is working with France and Germany on a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to enable continued sanctions relief to reach Iran, and to allow for European exporters and importers to trade in compliance with EU and UN sanctions.</p><p>In parallel to our work with partners to maintain the JCPoA, we continue to take steps with our partners against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps destabilising behaviour across the region and to hold Iran to account on human rights, including its treatment of British-Iranians detained in Iran.</p> answering member constituency North East Bedfordshire answering member printed Alistair Burt question first answered 12/11/2018 16:00:39 answering member 1201 label Biography information for Alistair Burt

It is essential that both the Federal and State Governments in Nigeria address the drivers of conflict by working to develop solutions that meet the needs of all the communities affected. The UK and Nigeria have a security and defence partnership, signed during the Prime Minister's visit. We support the Nigerian authorities in improving security and in order to enable economic growth. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/11/2018 answer text <p>​We continue to raise the importance of countering discrimination within the Commonwealth, including on grounds of gender identity or sexual orientation. In her speech to the Commonwealth Forums on 17 April, my Rt Hon Friend the Prime Minister set out the UK's readiness to support any member state wanting to reform outdated legislation that makes discrimination on the grounds of gender identity or sexual orientation possible. The Prime Minister was clear that while we must respect one another's cultures and traditions, we must do so in a manner consistent with our common value of equality, a value that is clearly stated in the Commonwealth Charter. We have since announced a £5.6m programme working with civil society organisations to support those countries who might wish to reform discriminatory legislation. The FCO has called on all parties to ensure that the constitution is respected and due political and legal process upheld. I have urged the President on 29 October, in consultation with the Speaker, to reconvene parliament immediately to give the democratically elected representatives of the Sri Lankan people their voice.</p><p>The UK is committed to the full implementation of UN Human Rights Council Resolution 34/1, under which Sri Lanka committed to implement a range of measures to provide for human rights, truth-seeking and reconciliation following the end of its civil war. I encouraged Foreign Minister Marapana, officials and others to continue to make progress on these commitments when I visited Colombo in October 2018. I visited Khan al-Ahmar on 30 May, and on 12 June issued a video message emphasising the UK’s concern at the village’s imminent demolition. Our Consul General in Jerusalem most recently visited on 11 September to assess the situation on the ground and demonstrate UK support for the community. Foreign and Commonwealth Office officials in India have been in touch with the Indian Government and Kerala State Government, and continue to closely follow events in the region. Consular officials helped 77 British Nationals in difficulty. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is responsible for paying the total running cost whether or not a Foreign Secretary chooses to live in the official residence.</p><p>All Foreign Secretaries living in the official ministerial residence are responsible for paying the council tax and utility bills for the private living area.
