answer text
The Foreign Secretary issued a Written Ministerial Statement on 29 June to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (http://www.parliament.uk/business/publications/written-questions-answers-statements/written-statements/) which outlined our assessment of the 'One Country, Two Systems' principle, as well as referencing specific concerns over its implementation. The UK continues to believe that it is in Hong Kong's best interests that discussion resumes between all parties in Hong Kong in order to make further progress towards a more democratic and accountable system of government, as provided for in the Basic Law.
more like this

We have encouraged the UN to improve in its leadership, efficiency, accountability and performance, and we have mobilised our broad range of relationships and networks in support of UN Secretary-General (UNSG) Guterres to give him the best chance of progress. We encourage appointments based on merit. We are also supporting the UNSG's policy of appointing more women to senior positions to help redress the gender imbalance at the UN.
more like this

answer text
The 2015 National Security Strategy and Strategic Defence and Security Review sets out the UK's objective to "help strengthen the rules-based international order and its institutions". This objective remains central to our foreign policy. As part of this we championed the more open and transparent process in the selection of António Guterres as the new UN Secretary-General and strongly support his vision for UN reform. We have maintained our commitment to spend 0.7% of gross national income on Official Development Assistance. We have doubled the number of British troops deployed on UN peacekeeping missions and are leading international efforts to tackle modern slavery and conflict-related sexual violence. As we prepare to exit the European Union, the UK will continue to work closely with our allies and partners in Europe and across the world to promote and protect shared values and advance multilateral cooperation through a rules-based international order with the UN at its core.

answer text
As part of the 'Be on the Ball' campaign, the FCO has published specific travel advice for the World Cup next year (www.gov.uk/russia2018). We recommend all British fans travelling to the World Cup in Russia in 2018 have a close look at this advice. FCO travel advice for Russia is clear on the need to be careful as an LGBT visitor to the country, particularly following the introduction of a law banning the promotion of 'non-traditional sexual relations' in June 2013, given its potential to legitimise homophobia and encourage violence against LGBT people. The issue of LGBT rights is one that we raise regularly with the Russian authorities.
more like this

The British Embassy in Moscow is funding an International Organization for Migration project to improve the understanding and skills of social workers in Russia so they can better support the victims of modern slavery.
