We have put in place proportionate, precautionary measures in response to the outbreak
of coronavirus in China, informed by the clinical advice of the Chief Medical Officer
and national experts in the treatment of infectious diseases. The site in Arrowe Park
was chosen because it offers appropriate accommodation and medical support for those
coming back from Wuhan while they stay in the North West.

The team at this site
is able to ensure that infection control remains at the highest standard and that
individuals have access to specialist care if required. It also allows the health
of those in the group to be regularly monitored and has the necessary medical facilities
close at hand should they be required.

The presence of this group in the North
West does not increase the risk to local people. The accommodation facility is solely
occupied by the citizens returned from Wuhan. Those providing support at the site
are fully trained to ensure that they provide care and assistance in a safe way. Staff
are following tried and tested procedures and using the highest safety standards possible
for the protection of National Health Service staff, patients and the public.

All
services within the hospital are continuing to run as usual, including emergency services,
outpatients and planned surgery. The hospital is completely safe for all users and,
as always in the NHS, we would strongly urge people to keep to their appointments.

The
cost of quarantining citizens from Wuhan will be covered by Departmental budgets.
