answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/03/2024 answer text <p>The General Medical Council (GMC), as an independent organisation, will be responsible for the regulation of Anaesthesia Associates (AAs) and Physician Associates (PAs).</p><p>The GMC has confirmed that it will put resources in place to deal swiftly and fairly with future complaints and concerns about AAs and PAs, without impacting on service delivery for doctors. The cost of fitness to practise processes for AAs and PAs will depend on case volumes, which are currently unknown. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/03/2024 answer text <p>While the National Health Service has always been required to commission appropriate palliative and end of life care services to meet the reasonable needs of their population, in 2022 palliative care services were added to the list of services an integrated care board (ICB) must commission, promoting a more consistent national approach and supporting commissioners in prioritising palliative and end of life care in all settings. To support ICBs in this duty, NHS England has published statutory guidance and service specifications.</p><p>From April 2024, NHS England will include palliative and end of life care in the list of topics for its regular performance discussions between national and regional leads. Additionally, NHS England has commissioned the development of a palliative and end of life care dashboard, which brings together relevant local data in one place. Work is ongoing to update the number and proportion of women who use alcohol while pregnant from 2019/20 onwards. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/03/2024 answer text <p>NHS England is committed to improving diagnosis rates, and recovering to the national ambition for two thirds of people with dementia to have a formal diagnosis. This commitment is included in the operational planning guidance for 2023/24, giving clear direction for integrated care boards to prioritise dementia. The national ambition includes provision for a sub-type diagnosis.</p><p>NHS England has established a dedicated national programme team which co-ordinates the preparations for the potential roll out of new treatments, for use in the earlier stages of Alzheimer’s disease. These plans assume that, if these new treatments are approved by the regulators, significant additional diagnostic capacity including amyloid positron emission tomography and computed tomography (PET-CT) lumbar puncture and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), will be needed both to identify patients who are most able to benefit, and to provide important safety monitoring for potential adverse effects during treatment.</p><p>The team at NHS England is taking concrete steps to ramp up preparations across the country and assess the additional scanning, treating, and monitoring capacity that will be needed. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/03/2024 answer text <p>On 26 February 2024, NHS England published the results of the cytosponge test pilot for secondary care routine reflux and Barrett’s surveillance cohort, which began in January 2021, and launched at 30 hospitals across England. The pilot tested over 8,500 patients with the capsule sponge test. Evaluation of a cohort of patients showed almost eight out of 10 patients, who completed a test, were discharged without the need for further testing, freeing up endoscopy capacity for higher risk patients and those referred for urgent tests for oesophageal cancer. These demonstrator systems are:</p><p>- Suffolk and North East Essex;</p><p>- North West London;</p><p>- South West London;</p><p>- Birmingham and Solihull;</p><p>- Humber and North Yorkshire;</p><p>- North East and North Cumbria;</p><p>- Lancashire and South Cumbria;</p><p>- Cheshire and Merseyside;</p><p>- Surrey Heartlands;</p><p>- Kent and Medway;</p><p>- Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire; and</p><p>- Gloucestershire.</p><p>The demonstrator systems are currently identifying the elements of the vaccination strategy on which they would like to focus. These include delivering innovative outreach services to target underserved communities, and exploring the expansion of successful flexible seasonal workforce management systems across all immunisations delivered by the NHS.
