answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/02/2019 answer text <p>The Government has published updated advice for United Kingdom persons resident in countries in the European Economic Area as well as for those wishing to travel to such countries after exit day with specific information on potential changes to access to reciprocal healthcare and precautions they may wish to take in a ‘no deal’ scenario.</p><p> </p><p>General information is available on the GOV.UK website and country-specific advice can be found under the relevant sections of NHS.UK as well. Through this, we announced that we would be investing £0.5 million in the Carer Innovations Fund to develop innovative and creative ideas, supported by technology, to improve carers’ everyday experiences.</p><p> </p><p>In November, I announced that the budget for the Fund would be significantly increased to £5 million. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/02/2019 answer text <p>We want to secure reciprocal arrangements bilaterally with Member States in a ‘no deal’ scenario, so that no-one faces sudden changes to how they obtain healthcare.</p><p> </p><p>The United Kingdom and Irish Governments have both set out their firm intention to maintain the Common Travel Area and to protect the associated reciprocal rights enjoyed by UK and Irish nationals when in each other’s state, including access to healthcare services, whatever the terms of the UK's withdrawal from the European Union. These issues are now resolved and supplies are currently available. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/02/2019 answer text <p>In August 2018, the Department wrote to all pharmaceutical companies that supply prescription-only and pharmacy medicines to the United Kingdom that come from, or via, the European Union / Economic European Area asking them to ensure a minimum of six weeks’ additional supply in the UK, over and above existing business-as-usual buffer stocks, by 29 March 2019.</p><p> </p><p>We recognise, however, that certain medicines with short shelf lives, including medical radioisotopes, cannot be reasonably stockpiled. Where these medicines are imported from the EU or EEA, we have asked that suppliers ensure in advance plans to air freight these medicines from the EU in the event of a ‘no deal’ exit.</p><p> </p><p>While stockpiling medicines and alternative air freight remains a critical part of our ‘no deal’ medicine supply contingency plans, we are also supplementing these with additional actions.</p><p> </p><p>We have further secured sufficient roll-on, roll-off freight capacity on alternative routes to enable these vital products to continue to move freely in to the UK. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/01/2019 answer text <p><strong></strong>The Department funds research on health and social care through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). NIHR welcomes funding applications for research into any aspect of human health, including heart attacks in women. It is not usual practice to ring-fence funds for particular topics or conditions.</p><p> </p><p>There have been 28 studies directly funded by the NIHR relating to heart attacks (myocardial infarction) in the last five financial years, from 2013/14 to 2017/18, all with female participants, including a randomised controlled trial investigating the prevention of cardiac toxicity in breast cancer patients. Additionally, over the same period, there has been support through NIHR Clinical Research Networks for 23 studies investigating heart attacks all of which included female participants, with a total expenditure of £1.9 million. The British Women’s Heart and Health Study, which commenced in 2009, was directly funded by the NIHR and specifically looked at heart disease in women.</p><p> </p><p>Preventing and managing cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a priority for NHS England, as indicated by the inclusion of CVD in the NHS Long Term Plan. CVD prevention is also a key theme in NHS England’s Five Year Forward View and their NHS RightCare programme. NHS RightCare launched the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Optimal Value Pathway in 2016.</p><p> </p><p>The NHS Long Term Plan also sets out how we will ensure that patients continue to benefit from high quality research and innovation with a commitment that the National Health Service will play its full part in delivering the Life Sciences sector deal and work to increase the number of people registering to participate in health research to one million by 2023/24.</p> answering member constituency Gosport answering member printed Caroline Dinenage question first answered 23/01/2019 14:48:26 answering member 4008 label Biography information for Dame Caroline Dinenage
