answer text
The Department commissions research through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). The NIHR and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) have co-funded rapid research to support the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including on the nasal administration of vaccines. Approximately £580,000 was awarded to Imperial College London towards a study on the safety and lower airway immunogenicity of two candidate COVID-19 vaccines administered to the respiratory tract. Additionally, the NIHR is providing infrastructure support to two phase one studies in this area, including the study at Imperial College London. As the largest public funder of health and care research, the NIHR welcomes funding applications for research into any aspect of human health, including intra-nasal COVID-19 vaccines.
more like this

answer text
On 7 January 2022, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advised that the priority for the COVID-19 booster programme remains to increase coverage of the first booster dose across the adult population, particularly in older adults and those in clinical risk groups. A second booster dose was not advised at this time, as there is evidence of continued high vaccine effectiveness against hospitalisation due to the Omicron variant following a first booster dose. The JCVI continues to consider the latest available data and its review of the booster programme, particularly in relation to the timing and value of any second booster doses for the most vulnerable.
more like this

answer text
A national ‘BOOST your immunity this winter’ communications campaign was launched in mid-October. This sets out the importance of those eligible receiving their COVID-19 booster and flu vaccinations this winter. There is regular coverage in the media, with calls to action to book an appointment for a booster vaccine. This is supported by leading voices including Ministers, scientists and clinicians, and community and faith leaders, alongside social media messaging.

There are more clinics in England delivering COVID-19 vaccines including pharmacies, general practitioner practices and other community sites. Hundreds of walk-in sites are available to allow people to receive their booster dose without an appointment. The National Booking Service was also updated in November to allow those eligible for a booster vaccine to pre-book five months after their second dose.
more like this

answer text
NHS England are contacting those eligible for a COVID-19 booster vaccine inviting them to book an appointment by either calling 119 or online. If an eligible individual has not been contacted at six months and one week since their second dose, they are invited to book their appointment via the National Booking Service without the need of an invitation letter. NHS England’s National Immunisation Management System sends reminders via text or letter to anyone who has not been vaccinated, or who has not booked an appointment through the National Booking Service.

The COVID-19 vaccination programme works with regional teams and local health systems to ensure good and timely access to vaccination appointments, with more clinics administering vaccines, including pharmacies, general practitioner practices and other convenient community sites. A national ‘BOOST your immunity this winter’ campaign has launched, setting out the importance of the COVID-19 booster and flu vaccines this winter. We are also providing advice and information to address any questions about the vaccination process.
