answer text <p>We do not have systematic evidence of increasing waiting times across the different ‘tiers’ of child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS). Anecdotal evidence for increasing waiting times we are aware of does not link to specific geographical areas or providers.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Charity YoungMinds and the <em>CAMHS Benchmarking Report</em> by the NHS Benchmarking Network have both reported increased waiting times for services.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>YoungMinds state that lack of access to services and long waiting lists are common issues raised through the YoungMinds Parent’s helpline.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The <em>Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Tier 4 </em>Report identifies a long waiting time for beds in some areas, and as a result NHS England is investing £7 million this financial year to provide up to 50 additional beds in the areas with greatest need.</p><p> </p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> </p><p>We are keen to ensure that children and young people are able to access mental health services as and when they need them. The Children and Adolescent Mental Health Wellbeing Taskforce is focusing on a number of issues which need to be addressed in child and adolescent mental health, including the current complexity faced by children and young people and their parents and carers in understanding and accessing child and adolescent mental health services.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In October we published a 5 Year Plan <em>Achieving Better Access to Mental Health Services by 2020</em> which sets out the case for comprehensive access and waiting time standards in mental health for people of all ages. It announces the introduction of standard waiting times for Early Intervention in Psychosis services which will be of benefit to young people, and for the adult Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme. Where adult IAPT services are commissioned to provide a service to 16 and 17 year olds, the waiting time standards will apply to all those attending the service, regardless of their age.</p><p> </p>

answer text <p>The Five Year Forward View is a publically available document. It lists a number of initiatives specifically targeted at children, such as a commitment to target obesity in children. The NHS leadership articulates an ambition to radically redesign and improve care through developing new care models in partnership with local communities. The vision is of approaches to organising care that are more integrated, more responsive and more tailored to the needs of local populations. answer text <p>The content and standard of medical training is the responsibility of the General Medical Council (GMC), which is an independent statutory body. It has the general function of promoting high standards of education and to ensure that medical students and newly qualified doctors are equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential for professional practice.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) sets standards for education to make sure nurses have the right skills and qualities when they start work. They also set standards for education throughout nurses’ careers, after they initially qualify. The NMC also sets the standards for education of pre-registration health visitors.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Medical schools design curricula for undergraduate medical education. In doing so they must ensure that teaching meets the standards of the GMC in order to both gain and maintain GMC recognition of their course.</p><p> </p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> </p><p>We would expect bodies with responsibility for curricular to, where appropriate, ensure it reflected changing practice and for example the role that physical health can and does play in ensuring those in their care remain fit and healthy.</p><p> </p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> </p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> </p>

There are five factsheets for each age group which accompanies the report and it sets out examples to meet the recommended levels of physical activity. This information is widely available.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In October 2014, Public Health England (PHE) published ‘Everybody Active Every Day’. This places physical activity at the heart of the public health message, building on the CMO’s guidelines and setting out the evidence base for what works to get people active at a population scale. PHE will monitor its progress and measure its impact over time. The Department has also recently commissioned PHE to look into how we can develop more effective messaging on physical activity so that more people are aware of the CMO’s guidelines.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this
