DWP’s recently published Universal Credit Full Service Survey found an increase in earnings for those in work and on Universal Credit by an average of £600 per year. Additionally, our Universal Credit employment impact analysis (published in September 2017) found that people on Universal Credit are four percentage points more likely to have been in work than JSA claimants</p><p> </p><p>At Autumn Budget 2018, we recently announced a £1000 increase in work allowances from April 2019, which will provide a £630 boost for households with children, and for people with disabilities.</p><p> </p><p>To support the transition to Universal Credit for all self-employed people, the Autumn Budget also announced we will be extending the 12-month grace period (the period before the Minimum Income Floor applies) to all gainfully self-employed people, giving claimants time to grow their businesses.</p> answering member constituency Reading West answering member printed Alok Sharma question first answered 23/11/2018 14:59:20 answering member 4014 label Biography information for Sir Alok Sharma

Those who do not have a bank account can be paid through a Post Office Card Account, or alternatively payments can be made into someone else’s bank account. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/11/2018 answer text <p>The Government recognises and appreciates the vital contribution made by informal carers who provide invaluable support for relatives, partners, friends and neighbours who may be ill, frail or disabled. We are already supporting carers in a number of ways, including through the benefit system. Since 2010 the rate of Carer’s Allowance (CA) has increased from £53.90 to £64.60 a week, meaning an additional £550 a year for carers. By 2022/23 we are forecast to spend £3.7bn a year on CA, a real terms increase of more than a third since 2016/17.</p><p> </p><p>Access to CA for pensioners and full-time students reflect long-standing principles of the benefit system and we have no plans to change the rules.</p><p> </p><p>Although there is no age limit to claiming CA, it cannot normally be paid with the State Pension. CA replaces income where the carer has given up the opportunity of full-time employment in order to care for a severely disabled person, while State Pension replaces income in retirement. For this reason, social security rules operate to prevent them being paid together, to avoid duplicate provision for the same need. However, if a carer’s State Pension is less than CA, State Pension is paid and topped up with CA to the basic weekly rate of CA. Where CA cannot be paid, the person will keep underlying entitlement to the benefit. This gives access to the additional amount for carers in Pension Credit of £36.00 a week, and even if a pensioner’s income is above the limit for Pension Credit, he or she may still be able to receive Housing Benefit.</p><p>The Government thinks it is right that people in full-time education should be supported by the educational maintenance system, via its range of loans and grants, and not the social security benefit system. That is why, as a general principle, full-time students are usually precluded from entitlement to income-related and income-maintenance benefits. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/12/2018 answer text <p>The information requested is not held for all assessments, however, data can be provided in relation to the number of face to face assessments undertaken.</p><p> </p><p>In October 2018, 14,356 Universal Credit claimants had their initial Work Capability Assessment (WCA) completed by face to face assessment.</p><p> </p><p>Of these, 703 (less than 5%) waited 3 months or longer following the date from which they returned their UC50 form. The employment rate was 75.8%, an increase of 5.2 percentage points since the 2010 election.</p><p> </p><p>However, trends in employment in Kettering and Northamptonshire are not possible to ascertain robustly, due to small numbers of the people with these characteristics in these survey samples.</p><p> </p><p>Figures for the East Midlands region are available. For July-September 2018, there were 2.27 million people employed in the East Midlands region.
