answer text <p>As at June 2016, there were 1,230 live cases with the Child Support Agency in the East Ham constituency and, in the 12 months to June 2016, 390 cases have experienced new payment arrears due to a non-resident parent either not paying any child maintenance or not paying in full.</p><p> </p><p>Information on geographical breakdowns on the Child Maintenance Service is not routinely recorded for management information purposes and could only be provided at disproportionate cost.</p><p> </p><p>Notes:</p><p>1) Numbers are rounded to the nearest 10.</p><p>2) Monetary values are rounded to the nearest pound.</p><p>3) Cases have been allocated to a parliamentary constituency by matching the residential postcode of the parent with care or non-resident parent for all cases administered on the CS2 and CSCS computer systems and cases managed off system to the Office for National Statistics Postcode Directory.</p><p>4) The number of live cases might not include all people who are entitled to claim child maintenance in that constituency as we only hold data on people who apply to the Child Support Agency.</p>

answer text <p>The introduction of fees and on-going collection charges are designed to act as an incentive for parents to pause and consider the different options available to them for a child maintenance arrangement, rather than applying to the statutory Child Maintenance Service ‘by default’. answer text <p>The introduction of fees and ongoing collection charges are designed to act as an incentive for parents to pause and consider the different options available to them for a child maintenance arangement, rather than applying to the statutory Child Maintenance Service 'by default'. Charges make a small contribution to a service that is heavily subsidised by the taxpayer.</p><p>It is not possible to forecast with confidence the projected monthly income from fees and charges in the Child Maintenance Service as this is sensitive to several factors, which includes the volumes of applications, the size of the caseload and client behaviour. It will also be sensitive to outcomes from the Child Support Agency case closure process, as cases are not automatically transferred.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The most recent published assessment of the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the Child Maintenance Service was contained in the National Audit Office’s value for money study in 2014 - Child maintenance 2012 scheme: Early Progress. This concluded that progress at the time of the study had been positive. answer text <p>We have interpreted this question to mean “how Child Support Agency (CSA) (a) clients and (b) former clients <strong>actively</strong> request collection of any CSA arrears held by the Child Maintenance Service.” If a client or former client of the Child Support Agency (CSA) would like their arrears collected they should call the Child Maintenance Service (CMS). When debt is moved from the Child Support Agency to the Child Maintenance Service system, clients receive a letter that includes contact details for the CMS.</p> more like this
