answer text <p>The Government has invested up to £34 million in skills bootcamps to train up to 11,000 more people to become HGV drivers. These are free, short, intensive courses to train new drivers to gain an HGV licence. In addition, the Large Goods Vehicle Driver apprenticeship standard to train articulated HGV drivers, which is supported with up to £7,000 of funding, and the Urban Driver apprenticeship to train rigid HGV drivers with up to £5,000 of funding are available for businesses.</p><p>Support for education and training outside England is a matter for the devolved administrations.</p><p>The Department for Work and Pensions and Jobcentre Plus in England, Scotland and Wales are also supporting jobseekers become HGV drivers where appropriate. Some Jobcentre regions have created Sector-based Work Academy Programmes where the local job market requires more HGV drivers.</p><p>Employment support is a devolved matter for the Northern Ireland Executive.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Netherlands, like other EU Member States, can request HGV registration details under Mutual Legal Assistance provisions. However, the Trade and Cooperation Agreement suspends timescales for responding to Mutual Legal Assistance requests for vehicle registration data in respect of the enforcement of minor traffic offences until 1 January 2024. Requests are dealt with on a case-by-case basis.</p><p>We are reviewing our approach to the provision of data once timescales apply.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The police and local authorities have existing powers to tackle excessively noisy and illegally modified vehicles.</p><p>To support enforcement efforts, the Department has commenced roadside trials of the latest ‘noise camera’ technology to understand if it can be an effective tool for the police and local authorities that will enable more targeted and efficient enforcement. If the trials prove to be successful, noise cameras may be considered for wider rollout.</p> more like this

These plans were significantly delayed for the duration of the COVID pandemic, as were recruitment and training across all operators.</p><p>Just under 100 additional drivers will enter formal service between April and December this year.
