answer text <p>The Department for Transport compensated Transport for London (TfL) in full for the projected impact on their revenues of the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s September 2014 announcement on regulated rail fares. The Department did this by paying TfL an additional £43 million, spread over two financial years (£7m in 2014/15, and £36m in 2015/16), by means of a variation to their core grant (the GLA transport grant, paid under section 101 of the Greater London Authority Act 1999). This followed consultation with HM Treasury and with the Greater London Authority.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Department for Transport’s annual Concessionary Travel Survey asks the following question in relation to commercial concessions available to young people, of which there is specific guidance repeated below:</p><p> </p><p><strong>Question 19: Do the main bus operators in your authority / scheme offer commercial concessions to young people in 2015/16?</strong></p><p>This question concerns commercial concessions only i.e. those controlled/managed/funded by a bus operator. We are aware that you may not know of all the youth schemes offered in your area, but any information you can supply here does offer us a useful starting point for gathering further information from operator websites.</p><p> </p><p>If possible please specify the name of the operator, the age group (e.g. 16-18) covered, the fare charged (free, half, flat), time period (term-time only/all year, 8.30-10.30) and any other relevant information. You will have an opportunity in Q21 to tell us about any youth schemes that your Travel Concession Authority (TCA) controls/manages/funds.</p>

answer text <p>The difference in the data given is due to the ‘Command and Control’ database, used by Highways England to record all incidents on the Strategic Road network, being reconfigured in April 2013 to improve the consistency of the data recorded. This has led to improved accuracy, particularly when logging types of incidents and the method for recording ‘suicides’ or ‘attempted suicides’ was also adapted.</p><p> </p><p>In 2015 there were 790 incidents logged as suicides or attempted suicides.</p><p>In 2016 – from 1<sup>st</sup> January to 21<sup>st</sup> February – there have been 120 such incidents.</p><p><strong> </strong></p> more like this

answer text <p>There is an initial budget of £650k for the Emissions Testing Programme. To retain independence we are not seeking contributions from manufacturers. Where testing is being done specifically on Skoda vehicles outside of this test programme, Skoda will be charged on a case by case basis by the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA). The fees are set out in The Motor Vehicles (Type Approval and Approval Marks)(Fees) Regulations 1999, as amended. VCA will charge between £8,000 and £10,000 per vehicle. The emissions test facilities will be charged separately.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The Office for Rail and Road (ORR), as Highways Monitor, published a six month report on Highways England’s performance in December 2015. answer text <p>Data on all annual season ticket issues and the revenue associated with them was used to create an implied average annual season ticket fare. This was then uprated under both the RPI+0 policy, and the Department’s previous assumption about future policy (RPI+1), using the OBR’s assumptions of future RPI increases. The difference between the two was then summed to reach an average saving of £425 over the period.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Highways England has committed to provide a safer, integrated and more accessible strategic road network for cyclists, walkers and other vulnerable road users. Through the first Road Investment Strategy for Highways England, a ring-fenced allocation of £175 million has been made available between 2015 and 2020 to improve the safety of the Strategic Road Network and improve conditions for cyclists and other vulnerable road users.</p><p> </p><p>The Highways England current delivery plan states that £78 million will be used to improve conditions for those cycling alongside and crossing the Strategic Road Network. The remaining £97 million will be used to enhance the safety of our network, with £20 million of this specifically targeted at improving facilities to provide a more accessible and integrated network.</p> more like this
