answer text <p>The adoption of zero emission flight, including electric aviation, is considered at the Government and industry forum the Jet Zero Council (JZC) including its Zero Emissions Flight Delivery Group. The JZC is co-chaired by the Secretaries of State for Transport, Business and Trade and Energy Security and Net Zero with industry members including British Airways.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is investing a record £685 million over three years into R&amp;D in the UK aerospace sector through the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) programme. In February the Department for Business and Trade announced £113 million of co-investment with industry in three Rolls-Royce-led projects on hydrogen and Vertical Aerospace work on battery-electric aircraft.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The stations in Enfield North are served by a number of train operators. In the period May 2022 to May 2023, Greater Anglia had a cancellation rate of 1.6 per cent across the network and an average of 2.57 per cent on the route serving Waltham Cross, Enfield Lock and Brimsdown. Govia Thameslink Railway had levels of 5.9 per cent across the network and 5.7 per cent between Gordon Hill, Crews Hill and Enfield Chase.</p><p> </p><p>Cancellations remain a priority for my Department, and I am encouraged by strong improvements in recent months, including the best cancellation rates since May 2021 in the most recent rail period of 30 April to 27 May 2023.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Department monitors punctuality closely and continues to engage with Greater Anglia (GA), Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) and Network Rail to deliver reliable performance on the network. For the 2022-23 rail year, GA’s On Time performance on the West Anglia Main Line route which serves Enfield North was 82.1 per cent. GTR’s performance was 87.3 per cent at stations in the constituency. Both were above the national average of 67.8 per cent for the same period and I am encouraged by improvements in On Time performance across the network since December 2022.</p> more like this

The Office of Rail and Road produces annual estimates on the number of entries, exits and interchanges at each station across the network. It is expected that they will publish their figures for April 2022 to March 2023 in November of this year, whilst records for the rail year April 2021 to March 2022 and those prior can be found on the ORR website.</p> more like this

The studies considered a broad range of approaches to improve safety and accessibility of local high streets and surrounding areas to enable higher levels of walking, wheeling and cycling, including area-wide traffic management approaches such as low traffic neighbourhoods. Three mini-Hollands schemes were funded as part of Active Travel Fund 4 following assessment of study material.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>Responsibility for traffic management on local roads rests with the relevant local authority as they are best placed to consider how local needs can be effectively met. It is entirely a matter for individual authorities to decide on the nature and scope of policies. The Government has been clear that traffic management schemes should always be developed through consultation and engagement with local communities.</p> more like this

answer text <p>National Highways is committed to support all road users including walkers, cyclists and horse-riders. The £24bn funding for the current road period (2020-2025) includes Designated Funds which is one of the key funding vehicles for active travel investment. Through this fund, National Highways is providing new infrastructure for these users and enhancing existing facilities though targeted local investment. This investment supports the government’s cycling and walking strategy.</p><p> </p><p>National Highways is working closely with Active Travel England to establish a platform for effective co-operation and understanding. National Highways recognises the importance of their shared interest in supporting active travel for their customers, the development of active travel networks, and the need to collaboratively develop the relationship to maximise the benefits for their customers, communities and the environment.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government’s most recent assessment of progress towards meeting its active travel goals was set out in the Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy report to Parliament in July 2022, a copy of which is available in the House Libraries. On this particular target, the report noted that although there had been a significant increase of around 45% in the number of stages cycled between 2013 and 2020, further increases were required. The Department will provide an updated assessment in its next report to Parliament in due course.</p> more like this
