answer text <p>At a Westminster Hall Debate last year, the Rt Hon John Hayes MP announced the formation of a Task and Finish group to consider any taxi and private hire regulatory issues, their causes and potential remedies. The group’s remit includes considering the use and effectiveness of powers currently available to licensing authorities.</p><p> </p><p>The Group has now submitted its report and Ministers are considering the recommendations made. answer text <p>The Task and Finish Group on taxi and private hire vehicle licensing was set up by my Rt Hon Friend the Minister of State for Transport (John Hayes MP) to consider regulatory issues in the sector, and produce focussed recommendations for action. The regulations issued by Transport for London are a matter for them as the local licensing authority. The legislation that provides for licensing of taxi and private hire vehicle services is enabling in its nature, giving local licensing authorities the discretion to set standards that they deem to be appropriate for their area.</p> more like this

It is expected that a consultation on revised guidance will be launched early next year. answer text <p>Clause 145 of the Policing and Crime Bill currently being considered by Parliament would enable the Secretary of State to issue Statutory Guidance to taxi and private hire licensing authorities so as to protect children, and vulnerable individuals who are 18 or over, from harm.</p><p> </p><p>There is at present no plan to bring forward further primary legislation to reform the legislative framework for taxis and private hire vehicles in the current session.</p> more like this
