answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/02/2020 answer text <p>The uptake of zero emission vehicles is a priority for this Government, to ensure we meet our net zero ambitions by 2050. Ensuring that motorists who do not have access to off-street parking are able to access electric vehicle chargepoints and having a reliable and easy-to-use public charging network are key for achieving the continued uptake of plug-in vehicles.</p><p> </p><p>The On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS) provides grant funding for local authorities towards the cost of installing on-street residential chargepoints for plug-in electric vehicles. In October 2019, the Secretary of State wrote to all local authorities encouraging them to send their strategies for infrastructure deployment and to take advantage of ORCS funding. Last month we announced that we are doubling the value of the On-street Residential Charging Scheme from £5 to £10 million, this could support as many as 3,600 chargepoints for motorists who do not have off-street parking.</p><p> </p><p>Our manifesto stated that, along with the private sector, the Government will invest £1 billion in charging infrastructure – making sure that everyone is within 30 miles of a rapid charging station. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/02/2020 answer text <p>We are investing nearly £1.5bn‎ between April 2015 and March 2021 to support the transition to zero emission motoring and have put in place a range of grant schemes, available in any urban or rural areas UK-wide, to support the installation of charging infrastructure. We will set out a vision by Spring 2020 for a core infrastructure network of rapid and high powered chargepoints along England’s strategic road network.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has put in place various grant funding schemes to assist with the up-front cost of purchasing eligible electric vehicles. Along with other measures in the Government’s Road to Zero strategy, this adds up to one of the most comprehensive support packages in the world for the transition to zero emission vehicles. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/10/2018 answer text <p>In January 2018, the Government published its Industrial Strategy Automotive Sector Deal to support the continuing competitiveness of the UK’s automotive sector and its local supply chains.</p><p> </p><p>The Government’s Road to Zero Strategy – published in July – set out its ambitions for all new cars and vans to be effectively zero emission by 2040. The transition will be supported by a package of demand, supply and infrastructure measures, and £1.5 billion in funding. This includes assisting consumers in meeting the cost of ultra low emission vehicles with a variety of plug-in grant funding schemes for eligible ultra low emission cars, vans, taxis and motorcycles.</p><p> </p><p>The Government’s recent international Zero Emission Vehicle Summit emphasised its ambitions to lead this global transition, bringing other nations along through the ‘Birmingham Declaration’. At the Summit the Prime Minister announced £106 million in an R&amp;D funding package for innovators in ultra low emission vehicle technology, including in new battery and low carbon technologies.</p><p> </p><p>By supporting new ultra low emission vehicles, the Government is also helping to build the second hand market in the UK, which already offers a wide range of more affordable models.
