question text	To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what contingency measures he has in place for the effects on roads and railways of snowfall during winter.

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/12/2014 answer text <p>The Department for Transport has undertaken a great deal of work with the transport sector to prepare for this winter season and all key transport operators, including local authorities, train operating companies, the Highways Agency, Network Rail and airports, have contingency plans in place to deal with any winter weather that may be encountered.</p><p> </p><p>The Department continues to liaise with salt producers and as in previous years started to monitor salt stock holdings being held across the country. Analysis from a recent stock survey highlights the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highways_Agency" target="_blank">Highways Agency</a> (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HA" target="_blank">HA</a>) and local highway authorities are holding over one million tonnes of road salt. The Government has also retained an emergency salt stockpile of around 400,000 tonnes for this winter season. In addition both the Highways Agency and local highways authorities have winter service vehicles for use on the road network, including 500 vehicles for dealing with any incidents that may occur on the strategic road network.</p><p> </p><p>It must, however, be recognised that severe winter weather may cause some disruption to the transport network. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/12/2014 answer text <p>The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) conduct a number of different activities to monitor the quality of testing at MOT Garages. These range from re-inspecting vehicles that have just been tested through to conducting mystery shopper type activities.</p><p><br>DVSA use a mechanism to target its resource to those MOT Garages that present the greatest risk profile. The type of activity conducted is based on that which is best suited for the identified risk. These activities can range from an educative type support to a more stringent enforcement approach. <br><br>Where poor quality testing has been identified an assessment is carried out and, again, the approach is designed to be proportionate to the need - focused on best ensuring test quality. This could include on-site support or redirected additional training. These checks will disclose convictions for sex offences and other relevant information that local authorities can take into consideration when deciding who to license.
