answer text <p>While we sympathise with US concerns regarding transparency and the overproduction of steel, we continue to argue that tariffs applied under section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act are not an appropriate solution for dealing with these issues. We will continue to seek a constructive, permanent resolution with the United States to avoid further escalation, which would only harm businesses, jobs and consumers in the United Kingdom and the United States.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The decision by the US to impose tariffs under Section 232 relates to national security concerns, and therefore does not impact on any potential free trade agreement with the United States.</p><p>I had constructive discussions with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer when I was in the United States earlier this month on liberalising the UK-US trading relationship.</p> more like this

answer text <p>My Noble Friend the Minister of State for Trade and Export Promotion (Baroness Fairhead), will lead the creation of a new export strategy, bringing together expertise from across Government and the private sector.</p><p>This strategy will ensure that Government has the right financial, practical and promotional support in place to allow businesses to benefit from growth opportunities, generating wealth and wellbeing for the whole of the UK.</p><p>In addition, the Government will launch a targeted campaign to promote the support available from UK Export Finance (UKEF), as part of the wider GREAT campaign.</p> more like this

answer text <p>I most recently visited Qatar on 5<sup>th</sup> October, where I met the Prime Minister and members of his cabinet to discuss Trade and Investment between the UK and Qatar. These discussions included follow-up to my meeting with the Finance Minister in June and also the Qatar-UK Business and Investment Forum in Birmingham earlier this year where Qatar pledged £5bn of investment into the UK over the next 5 years.</p> more like this
