answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/02/2018 answer text <p>UK officials made clear to both the Israeli and Palestinian leadership at the Ad-Hoc Liaison Committee meeting on the 31 January 2018 that concrete actions from all sides are required to build trust and improve the situation on the ground for ordinary citizens. HMG officials have assessed that there is a range of difficulties in achieving engagement between Palestinian and Israeli youth, including movement and access restrictions for both communities, and entrenched social norms. The UK Government consistently calls on the Israeli Government to ease movement and access restrictions in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPTs). The UK is providing support to fund a people-to-people programme to help Israelis and Palestinians work together to achieve tangible improvements in their lives, foster inter-community understanding and help build constituencies for a just and peaceful political solution. At present, approximately £180m is frozen in connection with DFID-funded law enforcement investigations into the proceeds of grand corruption. Since 2006, these efforts have resulted in the permanent confiscation of £8.4m, of which over £1.1m has been returned to the Government of Nigeria as part of the UK’s obligations under the UN Convention Against Corruption; with the balance of confiscated assets to be returned at the conclusion of all legal proceedings. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 31/10/2016 answer text <p>The majority of the Department of International Development’s (DFID) education programmes in Pakistan support the work of the Governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. Both governments are aiming to improve the quality of education, including through reviewing and replacing text books, implementing Pakistan’s 2006 reformed curriculum, and improving teaching standards through regular and better quality teacher training.</p><p>Independent evaluations of the reformed curriculum have confirmed it to be based on values of democracy, pluralism, and peace. UK development programmes are assisting these provincial government efforts. In Sindh, we do not work with Government but rather we partner with the low cost private sector to get more poor children into school. UK government officials have been working hard to find a solution that allows the resumption of humanitarian aid while meeting the security concerns of the Government of Jordan. UK officials have been working closely with international partners, including the United States, the European Union and other international donors. Our international partners’ response and assessment of the situation on the berm is consistent with the UK government’s stance.</p><p>An agreement in principle has been reached with the Government of Jordan for the resumption of aid supplies to the border area within the coming weeks. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/07/2016 answer text <p>Irregular migrants in Africa are extremely vulnerable. We are working through the Khartoum Process, of which the UK is currently chair, and bilaterally to improve conditions for all migrants in the Horn of Africa. The Khartoum Process is a regional initiative bringing together the Governments of Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan and Libya and the EU, the UK, Italy, France, Germany and Malta to better manage migration in the region, including the protection of irregular migrants. The Khartoum Process is part of a plan of action agreed between African nations and the EU and its member states in Valletta in November 2015. The protection of migrant rights is a critical element of that plan.</p><p> </p><p>In Sudan, we are advocating through the Khartoum Process for increased rights for refugees in national legislation, including work permits for Eritreans in Sudan. Alongside this, DFID contributes through the European Development Fund to the €100 million EU Trust Fund (EUTF) package of Special Measures for Sudan, which aims to protect and address the development needs of refugees in Eastern Sudan. The EUTF has been supporting UNHCR and local law enforcement efforts over the past 18 months to make camps in the East of Sudan more secure. With this EU support, UNHCR also hosts a unit for unaccompanied minors (UM) in Shagarab Camp, which works to return them to their families in Eritrea wherever possible, houses them separately from other migrants in purpose built dormitories, and provides free meals for all the children.</p><p> </p><p>In April 2016, the UK together with World Bank and UNHCR signed up to a set of principles on programming to support long term refugees. These principles recommend increased support to a shift from relief provision for refugees towards a more sustainable approach. In line with this, DFID in Ethiopia is providing £125 million over the next five years for basic service and economic opportunities alongside protection programming, working with both refugees and host communities. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/06/2016 answer text <p>The UK is extremely concerned about the volatile situation in southern Damascus in recent weeks. We strongly condemn the indiscriminate attacks in the Khan Eshieh camp on 17 May 2016, killing five Palestinian refugees and a Syrian. We are particularly concerned by reports that the Khan Eshieh area has been placed under siege, blocking essential supplies from entering and risking the lives of thousands of civilians. We continue to call on all sides of the conflict, and their supporters, to respect and ensure respect for International Humanitarian Law and protect civilians.</p><p>The UK will consider any option compliant with international law that might saves lives in Syria. We do not think it would be feasible to broker a local ceasefire in Khan Eshieh, given the parties involved in the fighting there. However, though the International Syria Support Group (ISSG), we will continue to support the fulfilment of the cessation of hostilities and full humanitarian access.</p><p>The UK has given support to the UN and international NGOs since the start of the conflict to deliver aid to besieged and hard to reach areas. We will continue to use our position in the UN Security Council to push for humanitarian access across Syria. As a core member of the International Syria Support Group we agreed with other members of 11 February that humanitarian access should be opened to a number of priority areas as a first step to accelerating full and sustained access across Syria.
