answer text
DFID supports victims of human trafficking in Africa through several programmes, as part of the UK Government’s commitment to realising Sustainable Development Goal 8.7, the eradication of all forms of modern slavery, forced labour and human trafficking by 2030. Current support totals over £30 million.

In Nigeria, for example, we are providing rehabilitation and reintegration support to almost 1,000 victims of human trafficking and vulnerable migrants returned from Libya.

In Somalia, Sudan and Ethiopia we are providing protection and rehabilitation services to more than 200,000 vulnerable children on the move, reducing their risk of exposure to trafficking.

And we are working to end the worst forms of child labour in Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia. This includes children forcibly recruited during armed conflicts, sexually abused, or exploited through other forms of forced labour or hazardous work. Over 24,000 of the most vulnerable children will benefit directly and over 400,000 people are expected to benefit indirectly through increased awareness and improvements in legal systems.

We address this through support to the Livelihoods and Food Security Fund (LIFT), to which the UK has provided £187 million since 2010. DFID undertook a slavery assessment across Burma in 2018. As a result, we tripled funding through LIFT to tackle modern slavery to £40m.

We are currently developing a new programme addressing forced marriage which will work with mothers of daughters aged 10-18 in highly vulnerable areas, including displaced people’s camps.
more like this

The UK is working closely with our international partners to monitor the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and ensure a coordinated and effective response to urgent medical needs. UK financial assistance to the Palestinian Authority helps to pay the salaries of vetted health public servants in the West Bank. Last year this support provided up to 3,700 immunisations for children and around 185,000 medical consultations annually. In addition, the UK is a long-term supporter of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which provides basic services, including basic healthcare, to over 800,000 Palestinian refugees in the West Bank and 1.3 million Palestinian refugees in Gaza.
more like this

answer text
Aid delivered by road by trusted humanitarian partners is by far the most effective way to meet needs in Syria and to ensure that it reaches those most in need. We have, however, examined all options as part of our determination to do everything we can to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people.

Airdrops, manned or using drones, are not capable of meeting either the scale of needs or delivering many of the kinds of aid that could address the priority needs that we see in Syria (e.g. safe drinking water, health support). Furthermore, we judge that such an operation would carry a high level of risk because the consent is needed of those who control the airspace and those on the ground that could threaten aircraft. There is nothing to suggest that the Assad regime would provide such consent, given that it continues to use the denial of aid as a weapon of war.
more like this
