answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/01/2020 answer text <p>The Prime Minister has publicly stated that education, particularly girls’ education, is a priority for the UK. All UK aid education programmes have a focus on girls and young women.</p><p>Between 2009 and 2018 DFID’s spend on education doubled from almost £500 million to nearly £1 billion.</p><p>The latest data, from Statistics on International Development shows that 7% of total bilateral ODA is spent on bilateral education, all of which benefits girls. Between 2015 and 2019 DFID supported 14.8 million children to gain a decent education, of which at least 5.8 million were girls. All UK aid education programmes have a focus on girls and young women. The UK’s Flagship Girls’ Education Challenge, the largest global fund to girls’ education, is now supporting up to 1.5million girls across 17 countries. The UK is spearheading the global girls’ education “Leave No Girl Behind” campaign, focussing on getting girls learning, building international political commitment and boosting global investment so that all girls have access to 12 years of quality education by 2030.</p><p>In August 2019 at the G7 Summit, the Prime Minister announced £90 million of new UK support for education in emergencies and crises across the world. This will support 600,000 children living in conflict areas and areas of proacted crises. DFID’s Supporting Structural Reforms in the Indian Power Sector programme is working to improve the efficiency, reliability and sustainability of electricity supply in India, enabling a reduction in carbon emissions. Since 2015 DFID has invested in over 1GW of renewable energy projects in India – returns from these investments come back to the UK taxpayer. UK Aid Connect supports programmes led by consortia of diverse organisations to create solutions to complex problems facing the poorest people<strong>. </strong>ICG is a partner within the Smart Peace programme led by Conciliation Resources and receives funding to carry out particular work within that programme.</p><p>Overall funding to the Smart Peace programme is £11.9m for the period 2018-2022. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/01/2020 answer text <p>DFID provides approximately £17 million per annum in core funding to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), a strategic objective of which is to “increase the resilience of livelihoods to threats and crises” such as locusts. In 2018, UK core funding to the FAO supported the Desert Locust Information System, which provides an early warning information system for countries including in the Middle East and North Africa.</p><p>DFID also funds a range of programmes that work to improve the monitoring of and response to pests more generally. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/01/2020 answer text <p>DFID has committed over £600 million funding between 2011 – 2021 to conserve nature and wildlife. Nature-based solutions that protect the environment and biodiversity will be a priority for the UK’s increased investment in International Climate Finance of at least £11.6 billion between 2021/22 and 2025/26, announced by the Prime Minister at the United Nations Climate Action Summit 2019. DFID’s focus is on protecting biodiversity and ecosystems as a whole and we do not disaggregate our spend by species.</p><p>Commonwealth developing countries are major recipients of UK ODA. This will benefit people and businesses across Africa and in the UK. The IMF estimates that Africa is home to eight of the world’s 15 fastest growing economies. By 2050, over 2 billion people will live in Africa and 1 in 4 global consumers will be African. But African countries receive less than 4% of foreign direct investment and around 20 million jobs a year must be created to keep pace with population growth. Hosted by the Prime Minister, the Summit will bring together UK and African business representatives, African leaders and delegations from 21 countries, international institutions and young entrepreneurs. As we strengthen our place in the world, we want the UK to be the investment partner of choice for African nations.
