answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/10/2019 answer text <p>The UK government recently announced that it will step up its efforts to end the preventable deaths of mothers, new-borns, and children. The UK’s work on ending new HIV infections and preventing AIDS-related deaths is a part of that commitment. We recently announced a 16% increase in our contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria – £1.4 billion for this year’s replenishment. In 2018 alone, UK aid helped the Global Fund to provide 18.9 million people with antiretroviral therapy and protect nearly 700,000 babies from being infected by their mothers.</p><p>DFID’s assessment of progress on reducing global incidence of HIV/AIDS are informed by annual reviews of our programmes, which are publicly available on the DFID Development Tracker, along with reports and data produced by UNAIDS and other partners including the World Health Organisation and the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria.</p> answering member constituency South West Wiltshire answering member printed Dr Andrew Murrison question first answered 24/10/2019 13:38:04 answering member 1466 label Biography information for Dr Andrew Murrison

Since the report was published, access to reliable information has improved according to the latest GroundTruth Solutions survey with Rohingya in Cox’s Bazar. As a follow-up to the report, DFID has supported Translators Without Borders to undertake an innovative Myanmar/Bangladesh cross-border study to examine the Rohingya language in-depth and analyse how language barriers impact access to services and intercommunal relations in Rakhine State and Cox’s Bazar.</p><p> </p><p>DFID will consider with relevant implementing partners how the findings can inform future programme and policy development. DFID has funded Translators Without Borders to engage with humanitarian actors to raise understanding of the language barriers to address needs of Rohingya. However, we are concerned by the allegations of misconduct and mismanagement at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) which are currently being investigated by the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services under the authority of the UN Secretary General. The Minister for the Middle East and North Africa wrote to the UN Deputy Secretary General in August urging the UN to conduct a thorough, rigorous and speedy investigation and to act quickly on its recommendations. It would be inappropriate to comment on the allegations ahead of that process reaching a conclusion.</p><p> </p><p>We note that a small number of donors have suspended funding to UNRWA while the investigation is ongoing (representing approximately 0.01% of UNRWA’s 2019 budget). answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/10/2019 answer text <p>DFID’s Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) requires it to apply transparency standards in line with the UK Aid Transparency Guarantee and the International Aid Transparency Initiative for all funding received from DFID. All of UNRWA’s annual reports are published on UNRWA’s website. The Aid Transparency Index is an initiative run by the independent organisation ‘Publish What you Fund’ which selects aid organisations for inclusion based upon its own criteria. Restrictions of movement are limited to Erbil. The UN Refugee Agency is negotiating with the KRG on allowing this camp population access to Erbil.
