answer text
The UK Government fully supports efforts to end all forms of violence against children through its humanitarian and development programmes. Peaceful societies, good governance and the rule of law are all important development priorities for the UK and are central to protecting children globally. DFID is supporting programming in conflict-affected countries to assist and protect children, working with mandated child protection agencies including UNICEF. In Syria and the wider region more than £800 million in humanitarian aid is helping those affected, for example through the No Lost Generation Initiative which is providing education and psychosocial support to children to protect them from violence, abuse and exploitation.

In September Heads of Government will meet at the UN General Assembly to agree a Post-2015 development framework. The UK Government strongly supports goal 16 on peaceful and inclusive societies, which has a specific target on ending all forms of violence against children.

answer text
Strengthening disability data at all levels is a key part of DFID’s work on disability. DFID is working closely with the UN, including the UN Statistical Division, and others donors on this agenda. The UK has been, and will continue to be, explicit about the need for disaggregated data for all social groups, including disability, in negotiations on the post-2015 framework. Disability data disaggregation is included in the draft of the Post-2015 Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Report of the Open Working Group report for the Post-2015 development framework.

more like this

answer text
There were no declarations of famine in 2014. A number of countries or regions reached the level below famine in the classification. These include: South Sudan, Sudan, and some rural, conflict-affected areas of Central African Republic. In May 2014 there were warnings of famine in conflict-affected areas of South Sudan. DFID has so far (December 2013-present) provided £135 million for humanitarian response in South Sudan, and £58 million to refugees in the region.

DFID’s work in South Sudan and other areas at risk of acute food insecurity or famine continues to be informed by the Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) report on the 2010/2011 famine in the Horn of Africa. This recommended increased flexibility and early response, as well as approaches aimed at addressing chronic poverty and vulnerability. DFID has responded to this developing multi-year humanitarian approaches aimed at linking humanitarian and development work to maximise coordination, complementarity, impact and sustainability, and at building community resilience to shocks.
