DFID is also developing a new economic development programme which will help to address the lack of safe water in the Occupied Palestinian Territories through a range of activities, including by: enhancing the domestic desalination capacity; increasing capacity to import more water; and reforms and institutional capacity building to Palestinian water agencies. answer text
The UK is unequivocally committed to supporting Palestinian refugees across the region. Over the course of the 2017/18 financial year, the UK provided around £50 million to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), assisting in their provision of essential services including basic education to around 500,000 children, health services for around 3 million Palestinian refugees and supporting Palestinian refugees from Syria. The UK will deliver its next round of financial support earlier than originally planned, to help meet the growing needs of Palestinian refugees across the region. We are also working with the international community and UNRWA to explore how best to ensure the continuity of essential services to Palestinian refugees at this time.
more like this

answer text
UK officials made clear to both the Israeli and Palestinian leadership at the Ad-Hoc Liaison Committee meeting on the 31 January 2018 that concrete actions from all sides are required to build trust and improve the situation on the ground for ordinary citizens. HMG officials have assessed that there is a range of difficulties in achieving engagement between Palestinian and Israeli youth, including movement and access restrictions for both communities, and entrenched social norms. The UK Government consistently calls on the Israeli Government to ease movement and access restrictions in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPTs). The UK is providing support to fund a people-to-people programme to help Israelis and Palestinians work together to achieve tangible improvements in their lives, foster inter-community understanding and help build constituencies for a just and peaceful political solution. This three year programme – People for Peaceful Change – will include work with young leaders.

answer text
Humanitarian access to Eastern Ghouta is severely constrained by the Assad regime. Where access allows, our partners including the UN and NGOs are providing life-saving food, protection, and healthcare. The recent medical evacuation of 29 people in urgent need of treatment, whilst positive, does little to meet overall humanitarian need in Eastern Ghouta. The UK continues to demand full and sustained humanitarian access in order to deliver aid to those in need, and for further medical evacuations to take place. We are doing all we can diplomatically to achieve this, including calling on Russia to use its influence with the Assad regime.
more like this

answer text
The UK remains a leading supporter of the work of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). In 2017, the UK provided $141 million to help support millions of refugees and those forcibly displaced across the world. In the same year, UNHCR received $36.6 million from the Central Emergency Relief Fund (CERF), the rapid response fund for humanitarian emergencies, to which the UK remains the largest donor.

Since the start of the Syria crisis in 2012, DFID has provided £181 million to UNHCR for Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons inside Syria. Of this, £87.5 million has been provided to UNHCR in Lebanon to provide relief items (including throughout winter), cash support, as well as medicines, water and support to acquire civil documentation. Overall, DFID has allocated £543 million in humanitarian and development funding to Lebanon, including for improving sub-standard shelters so refugees have a warm and secure roof over their heads. This also includes a £77 million programme with the World Food Programme to provide the most in-need refugee families in Lebanon with monthly cash transfers to meet their food and basic needs.
