To this end, DFID collaborates closely with other Government Departments and through a European Partnership for Responsible Minerals. We provide funding to the Carter Center in the DRC to improve transparency and governance of the sector. DFID DRC is also working with other international partners to consider how we might tackle the issues in the cobalt supply chain in future programme design.
more like this

answer text
We are not aware of any formal reports of FGM being used as part of the electoral process; but with our partners we are closely monitoring all risks around the election.

DFID is committed to working with the Government of Sierra Leone to promote the rights of women and girls and will seek to work with the new Government to specifically tackle FGM in the country. Supporting Sierra Leones’ elections bodies to deliver free, fair and inclusive elections is a top priority for the UK. We are working with the National Elections Commission (NEC) and Civil Society Organizations to deliver civic and voter information better targeted to specific groups like women and persons with a disability. Efforts are underway by the UN in country to establish a women’s situation room to help monitor and tackle instances of violence against women and other vulnerable groups. The NEC is also working to make voting centres more physically accessible and/or able to provide special voting arrangements e.g. tactile ballots for the visually impaired, and table-top voting screens for mothers with small children.

answer text
The Department for International Development has a zero tolerance approach to UK aid funds being diverted to fund terrorist activities and the UK Government publishes a list of prescribed extremist groups or organisations banned under UK law. Where there are allegations of misuse of aid funds, these are investigated fully by the Department’s specialist Counter Fraud Unit, and funds are always recovered to the fullest extent possible.

The Department has robust measures in place to protect, prevent, and detect the diversion of aid. Controls are embedded through-out the programme cycle and are continually revised and adapted to meet evolving threats and changes in operational circumstances. The Department has recently strengthened its already rigorous due diligence process and comprehensive risk management framework which requires risks to be identified prior to the disbursement of UK aid.
more like this

answer text
We are unable to provide purchasing data prior to 2017. In 2017 DFID London purchased approximately 4,300 ‘Vegware’ cups every month. Made from plant material – not plastic – these cups are organic, compostable and can be recycled with the food waste. In 2017 DFID Scotland took delivery of approximately 3,000 card and plastic cups. There are schemes in both DFID offices to encourage use of reusable coffee cups, with 10% off the price of a coffee when staff use their own cup. In DFID Scotland reusable cups are available for purchase, with the aim of bringing down the number of disposable coffee cups used.
more like this

The report made some concerning allegations which we are currently assessing. The UK government is working with the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education to support a high quality education including through its curriculum. Our partnership with the PA includes a commitment from the Palestinian leadership to adhere to the principle of non-violence and to tackle language and actions that could incite violence or hatred. We continue to urge them to uphold this principle. The UK strongly condemns all forms of violence and deplores incitement.
more like this
