answer text <p>Our HIV and AIDS work has focused on multilateral instruments (Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, UNITAID and UNAIDS), given their greater reach and scale. The Global Fund helps countries avoid stock outs of drugs and supports patients to sustain treatment, which are two key factors in preventing drug resistance.</p><p>UNITAID has also played a key role in tackling HIV drug resistance by building the market for second-line antiretroviral treatment. Over 100,000 patients a year now have access to UNITAID-supported second-line HIV medicines.</p><p>We and our partners make use of reports such as the Global Report on Early Warning Indicators of HIV Drug Resistance published by WHO earlier this year.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK Government is playing a leading role in improving energy access in developing countries through on-grid and decentralised renewable energy. DFID has a range of programmes to increase investment.</p><p>For example, programmes in Kenya and Tanzania aim to stimulate investment in community scale, renewable energy mini-grids, increasing electricity access for millions of people, and our Renewable Energy and Adaptation to Climate Technologies challenge fund provides seed finance for renewable energy businesses. CDC, the UK’s Development Finance Institution, has committed US$330m of investment to renewable energy supporting five gigawatts of capacity generation.</p><p>Through the Energy Africa campaign the UK Government is also working with a range of African countries and businesses to accelerate the expansion of markets in Africa so that people can buy affordable solar energy systems.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK was the second largest international funder of HIV prevention, treatment and care between 2014 and 2015 and remains committed to helping end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.</p><p>HIV funding was discussed with international counterparts as part of the dialogue on the recent Global Fund Replenishment. The UK Government supports calls for shared responsibility and global solidarity in the response to HIV to achieve the Global Goal target. We strongly believe countries should commit according to their ability to contribute.</p> more like this

answer text <p>DFID has provided emergency cash transfers to more than 12,000 households and vaccinated three million livestock. We are currently providing 16,000 households with food, child nutrition support, access to health care, clean water and shelter. Our most recent funding, released this month, will provide cash to a further 6,500 households and nutrition and water for a further 50,000 people.</p><p>We are closely monitoring the effects of the drought, and matching our own substantial contribution with a campaign to encourage other international partners to step up and do more.</p> more like this
